A STROKE is defined as cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or "brain attack" that occurs when part of the brain loss it blood supply and part of the body that the blood - deprived stop functioning. In other words, stroke is a disorder of the brain that happens when the brain cells die due to inadequate oxygen.

If you're experiencing disability because of your stroke, the functions that are affected may depend on the side of your brain where the stroke occured. A stroke on the right side of your brain tends to affect movements and sensation on the left side of the body while a stroke on the left side of your brain tends to affect the right side of your body and may also affect speech language.
