Don't save oo. Invest in something or yourself.
No say I no tell you
Good advice for those that are not in a haste to look for employment after service. Go to camp, flex and don't waste time with PPA.

Start experimenting with your ideas and you would thank yourself for it after a year or 2.

Lol, I saved more than 600k during my service year. I couldn't believe my eyes. I served in Lagos, we were paid 33k allowee, I did my PPA where I got paid 50k monthly, I had some side jobs like freelancing and doing some web design jobs for people, paid my bills and still saved that much.

Na just to plan yourself well. Nothing more

Hahahaha

I saved 57k during my NYSC days in 2001 in Yauri Kebbi state and felt like a real slay queen then.. grin grin

And then our national allawi was N6,500
State allawi ( N1, 000)
LG allawi.( N400)

Yet l saved N57,000.. grin grin
Anyway sha, naira had value then.

Seems our N6,500 allawi of those days had more value than the present day N20k allawi of corpers.

God dey oo

How much can you save from 33k? Just develop yourself jare. You can be saving by buying etheruem worth 8k or 10k monthly tho, it will go a long way than saving In a bank

The first money step at NYSC isn’t to save. Here’s a list of what to start with:

1. Gather as much information as you can on mandatory living expenses. What will it cost you to eat, rent a house, and move around in your place of primary assignment (PPA)?

2. Estimate the monthly cost, and compare that with your monthly earnings. Do you need to earn more?

3. If your projected monthly earnings can cover basic costs, determine how much you can save.

4. Determine what your money goals are. They could range from your rent to payments for certification exams.

What if your PPA doesn’t pay enough? Don’t fret here’s a five-step guide to picking for a side gig:

1. List out your interests. I assure that this will be long a one, and that’s just fine.

2. Ponder on them for about a week, preferably at the orientation camp. This will help you filter your options.

3. Pick out the interests that will let you work remotely.

4. Take short (free) courses online to polish interest related skills.

5. Jump on opportunities with confidence.

It doesn’t end there, you now need to make sure these opportunities find you. To ensure this, participate in online conversations around your interests. Go further and share experiments—like mock market pitches if you are into market research. Then, reach out to small firms with a portfolio of your experiments.

With all these done, you can then consider saving using Challenges—where you save with friends together—through service year. To avoid stories that touch, you can use platforms like Cowrywise. They offer a service for challenges that allows everyone withdraw only their savings + interests in the end.

story story, instead of trying to save, why not use it for tangable things. Money nor easy to save ooo, as there will always be something to spend on. During my time, my method of savings was to borrow other business corpers half of my allawee. when i collect it back the following month, i will have enough money to execute a project. i usually have something big to engage in, every two months. Starting from writing professional courses worth 30k each, and buying household items like fridge, television, industrial gas, home theatre, in preparation for my bachelorhood, thereafter i started buying phones. i still came home with 45k extra money. i served in the state capital of osun state where food, transportation and accomodation is very cheap. i trek to & fro work

I almost turn weekend private lesson to a mini school settings during my service year.
I started with 2 students, I was taking them mathematics only for weekends.
Before 5-6months of service, I was already counting up to 8-10 students.
At that time, I don't even touch my alawe.

Savings will come only after you can comfortably take care of yourself.
The best thing will be to learn a skill. Don't joke with this one.
Re: How To Save During NYSC: The Unusual Guide by Taroshi(m): 2:10pm On Nov 11, 2020
As many persons have rightly pointed out, it's difficult to save this period as many guys have families to take care of.
It is recommended to just watch your spendings.
Only get what you NEED (not wants).

Other suggestions are on: https://www.thecompactbook.com/ especially BaBB (Building a Better Brain).

It helped me during my service year.

Re: How To Save During NYSC: The Unusual Guide by GidiCars: 4:16pm On Nov 11, 2020
The solution is to not actively participate in the scheme and focus on other stuffs. NYSC is a scam and should be scrapped. I was home all through the scheme, didn't even stay in camp, and left the state within seven days.

If I had stayed behind, there's no way I could have saved money, that I know for sure. Even on the first day, there were girls hovering around me already and trying to get my number, I didn't make friends with anyone cause I knew I won't be there for long. First, you have to pay for rent, feeding, you gotta flex small, transport here and there. You'll also want to shag some of those babes, you don't have to pay for that, nevertheless, you still gotta flex them once in a while to keep the vibes going.
