The Citation of Dada Adekunle Awosika.

There is no way the citation of Mr Dada Adekunle Awosika will be eloquently written without an opening reference to the evergreen lines of the Bard of Elizabethean era, Williams Shakespeare, wherein he surmised that: "some people are born great; some achieve greatness while some have greatness thrust on them.''

Extended further, the opening quote gives birth to another issue as per where to properly situate Mr Awosika in the context of the Shakespearean quote.

Well, for those who are conversant with the trajectory of Mr Awosika's story, it is not a complex analysis to know and note that he's someone who achieved greatness by the sheer grace of God and dint of hardowrk.

All immodesty cast aside, Mr Awosika's, our newly minted Senior Advocate of Nigeria, fresh from the factory, is a legal dynamite who has excelled in many areas of the legal profession since he was called to Bar about over two decades ago.

The new man of Silk, who hails from Ondo town in Ondo State, had his Secondary education at Salahudeen Grammar School, Osogbo, Osun state, where he had his West African Senior School Certificate in 1985 before proceeding to Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, where he bagged his LL.B Hon in 1996.

While at Ago Iwoye, he took courses in Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Commercial Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Property Law, Equity and Trust, Banking and Insurance Law, Environmental Law, Jurisprudence and Legal Theory.

He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1997 after completing the compulsory one year Law School where he studied Legal Drafting and Conveyance, Company Law and Practice, Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, Professional Ethics, Law Office Management and Solicitors' Accounts.

A decade later, determined not to rest on the already acquired legal laurels, Awosika became Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England wherein he studied Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation, Property Law & Practice and Professional Conducts & Accounts.

The implication of the above is that Awosika can practise Law in Nigeria as well as in the United Kingdom thus conferring on him the privilege meant for some exclusive set of Nigerians. No doubt, only diligence and commitment to the profession earned him this enviable privilege. It does not come easy.

Again, in pursuit of higher degrees in the arcane area of Law, in 2015, he concluded his Special Executive Master’s Program on International Business Law, at Metropolitan School of Business and Management in the United Kingdom.

Before then, as a way of diversifying his academic spectrum and to provide an alternative to what Law could offer, Awosika bagged an FIATA Diploma in Freight and Forwarding which he added to his skills in 2006 as well as Advance Diploma in AITA/FIATA Freight Forwarding in the same year.

Since 2011, till date, he has been running his Chambers D.A Awosika & Partners where he is involved in Maritime and Admiralty practice, Commercial, Tax and Corporate Practice and Land Litigations.

Without being immodest, the newest S.A.N in town is a leading litigation expert in Copyright and Collective Management Regime in Nigeria while he also provides legal advice to corporate clients on a wide range of legal issues, just to mention a few.

It needs be stated without equivocation that Mr Awosika is a defence counsel in criminal matters of note, most of which are handled pro bono publico. There are several legal testaments that underscore Mr Awosika's legal dexterity and expertise in this regard. Perhaps when his autobiography or biography is written some other day, God's willing, a good number of the decided cases may be mentioned.

Well, D. A Awosika & Partners did not just happen. It's a product of meticulous planning and learning which required that Mr Awosika worked elsewhere to garner a gamut of experiences which he readily deplores today to his advantage.

To start with, he acquired immeasurable experience working with some firms which include Professor A B Kasunmu SAN’s Chambers [Barristers & Solicitors] where he served as Associate Senior Counsel from 1996 to 2003.

From there he joined Corporate Eye Securities services Ltd, Knocklyon, Dublin16, Ireland where he served as Legal Counsel/Comapny Secretary till 2004 before s serving as In-house Legal Counsel at Citco Fund Services Dublin Ltd, IFSC Dublin 1, Ireland from 2004 to 2007.

East or West, home is always home. Mr Awosika later returned to Nigeria to become Management Partner at Lawline Solicitors till 2010 before the establishment of D.A Awosika & Partners established in 2010 as earlier mentioned.

Currently, D.A Awosika $ Partners had 15 lawyers on its payroll. In addition to that, the founder, Mr Awosika, has over 20 assistant staff also gainfully employed in the firm, reputed to be one of the very best law firms on the Mainland in Lagos State.

In any case, the versatility of Mr Awosika is not limited to his erudition in Law alone. He is also IT compliant; he holds European Computer Driving Licence (ECD) with expertise in Microsoft word processing, spreadsheets, database, excel, Presentation (PowerPoint) and internet.

Well-rooted at home and exposed abroad, his recent international conferences and workshops include Commonwealth Lawyers Association Conference, Scotland in 2015 and International Bar Association Conference, Buenos Aires in 2013.

Awosika holds membership in the Nigeria Bar Association, International Bar Association and Institute of Directors.

Well, Mr Awosika is not for Law alone. He also does some stuff outside his area of core competence. These extra curricular activities are Reading Law journals, Photography, Jogging and soccer. He is also a Volunteer with Free Legal Advice Centre where he provides free legal advice to members of the public.

Some folks only know Mr Awosika as a legal guru. There is more to this amazing personality than the Law. He is equally a quiet philanthropist who currently sponsors about 50 persons in school (higher institutions even abroad, secondary and primary school).

In the last 5years, he has actively engaged in pro-bono and created a department for same in his office which has seen not less than 100 indigent citizens out of prison ranging from Magistrates to the Supreme Court. The Records are there in Ibara, Oba and Ilaro Correctional Centres of Ogun State; Ikoyi and Kiriki Centre of Lagos State; Olokuta Correctional Centre Ibadan; Afao Correctional Centre in Ekiti State, to mention just a few.

Also interesting to note about this amiable personality is his commitment, love and bond to his family. Happily married to Yetunde Awosika (Nee. Allison) who he always refer to as "Ife mi" and blessed with children.

With his experience and expertise in the legal profession, Mr Awosika in 2020 applied to be elevated to the revered rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), which the Legal Committee has since found him worthy to be adorned with the prestigious title.

Ladies and gentlemen, I invite you all to welcome Mr Awosika into the exclusive club of the S.A.Ns in Nigeria.
