To unsubscribe from getting emails about this petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/signatures/95011351/unsubscribe?token=pQyWapgLK2HgTBfxaHBe Dear XXXXXXXXXXX The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Implement sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials”. Government responded: We were concerned by violence during recent protests and await the outcome of Nigerian investigations into reports of police brutality. We do not publicly speculate on future sanctions designations. The UK Government is deeply concerned by violence during recent protests in Nigeria, which tragically claimed lives. Our thoughts are with the families of all those affected. The Foreign Secretary issued a statement on 21 October calling for an end to the violence and for the Nigerian Government to urgently investigate reports of brutality by its security forces and hold those responsible to account. The Minister for Africa tweeted on 16 October, noting the Nigerian people’s democratic and peaceful calls for reforms, and again on 21 October, encouraging the Nigerian authorities to restore peace and address concerns over brutality towards civilians. He reiterated these messages when he spoke to Foreign Minister Onyeama on 23 October. The British High Commissioner in Abuja has also raised the protests with representatives of the Nigerian Government and will continue to do so. We welcome President Buhari’s decision to disband the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and the establishment of judicial panels of inquiry to investigate alleged incidents of brutality by the security services. They must investigate all incidents, including in Lagos, fully. The Minister for Africa tweeted on 29 October stressing the importance of the police and military’s cooperation with the panels. He raised this, and the need for the panels to urgently start investigations, when he spoke to the Governor of Lagos on 11 November. The UK Government will continue to work with the Nigerian Government and international and civil society partners to support justice, accountability and a more responsive policing model in Nigeria. We will continue to push for the Nigerian security services to uphold human rights and the rule of law, investigate all incidents of brutality, illegal detentions and use of excessive force, and hold those responsible to account. On 6 July, the Government established the Global Human Rights sanctions regime by laying regulations in Parliament under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018. In a statement to Parliament, the Foreign Secretary set out in full the scope of the UK’s new Global Human Rights sanctions regime. He announced the first tranche of designations, as well as the Government’s approach to future designations. This sanctions regime will give the UK a powerful new tool to hold to account those involved in serious human rights violations or abuses. The sanctions regime is not intended to target individual countries. It will allow for sanctions to be imposed on individuals and entities involved in serious human rights violations or abuses around the world. We will continue to consider potential designations under the Global Human Rights sanctions regime. It is longstanding practice not to speculate on future sanctions designations as to do so could reduce the impact of the designations. The UK Government will keep all evidence and potential listings under close review. Why do some Nigerians feel they can report their country to other countries expecting something to happen like they'll report a pupil to his headmaster? So what would UK do? |

[quote author=sigiyaya post=96040158]Nothing will come out of it. Nigeria is a British business conglomerate and the Hausa/Fulani are their business manger There is nothing happening in Nigeria today that is strange to the British. Nigeria was design to fail from 1914 amalgamation. The Brit created this whole system to still maintain dormination over the black race, like musashi said "always leave an escape route for your foe " at your own terms this is actually the shit in play in Africa, colonization has ended yet it remains . Until African can give solutions to African problem, the white would continue to exploit our land in guise of offering help. 2 Likes |

People forget so quick that both nations are independent nations and have their sovereignty. Lots of killings have been taking place in democratic republic of Congo, women, children are been killed, enslaved in their own country, but people think it is someone miles away that can help them. Only us can help ourselves!!! |

See how these idiots are surreptitiously colonising us. I don't blame them but the mentally enslaved people who always rush to them for issues which can be resolved locally. UK deliberately made a marriage that will keep us divided and be pretending in many ways. When UK and her allied set Libya on fire what happened? The same people are adamant to pay Africans compensation for slave trade! 2 Likes |

ijustdey: Nigerians are one of the most stupidest people in the world. You can see their stupidity here they will never vote for white people but they want Britain to help them. After kicking all the British companies out of Nigeria now they want British government to come outside and support them what a bunch of illiterate. I have no people in my life which are so stupid as Nigeria. In Nigeria when he wants medical treatment he runs out of the country. When do you want School they run out of the country. When do you want jobs they run out of the country. But when it is time to vote that is when they become stupid and go and vote for a Nigerian criminal which will be killing them on a daily basis even in developed countries this is how Nigerians are once it's time to put stupodity takes place. After the vote for the idiot they start complaining that the Nigerian idiot is killing them. I have see Nigerians in UK Europe and America with this same stupidity any small thing they were supporting Nigerians then they start complaining after that the Nigerian can do nothing for them . all over the world Nigerians cannot vote for a white man they will never vote for a foreigner but any small think they run to a foreigners country they run white mens country illiteracy and stupidity is there problem. 95% of Nigerians know that a Nigerian will do nothing for them they will still go and vote for the Nigerian 1 Like 1 Share |
