Progress and changes made by taskforce

• Apapa Wharf road – Completed since 2018 and already in use.

• 1.4km Liverpool road – Almost completed but open for public use.

• 2.9km Creek road – Almost completed but open for public use.

• Apapa-Oshodi Expressway from Creek road to Tin Can Port gate 1 – Almost completed.

• Apapa-Oshodi Expressway from Tin Can Port gate 1 to Mile 2 – at advanced stage of completion

• Tin Can Island Transit Truck Park - Completed and now in use

*PROBLEMS*

Return of idle trucks that park on the road for many days cause of traffic/gridlock in Apapa

Return of indiscriminate parking of trucks, tankers, containerized heavy duty vehicles on roads leading to Apapa and its environs
COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown altered the pace of work.

The temporary closure of major transit routes like Third Mainland Bridge, Eko Bridge and several other roads have impacted the Apapa route.

*OUTSTANDING ISSUES*

Other development includes the adoption of a Call-up system for trucks at the Lagos Port which is at advanced stage and will soon be deployed but when deployed no trucks will be expected on the roads unless called up.

The Nigerian Port Authority says it would deploy the use of inland waterways/terminals to evacuate cargo.

To improve cargo inspection, three scanners have been approved by the Federal Government and would soon be procured and installed at Apapa Port to improve the service’s efficiency.

Over 300 more scanners will be installed at other critical entry points of the country when the National Single Trade Window comes into full swing.

*CONCLUSION*

Traffic management and execution is State matter. It is important to note that the Presidential Taskforce has finished its work in Apapa and has handed over traffic management to the Lagos State government.

Please the Source and the bearer of these news, should be informed. Especially on point 5 of progress made; Tin-can Mile2 in advance stage...
It is worthy to mention at work progress on that portion of road is below 40% from 2018 to date. The sorry and shameful part of that road especially on the return lane back 2 mile2 is a disgrace to this country...
The incredible potholes /sink holes infront of the former Julius berger complex and under the berger bridge down to sunrise a journey at should not take any vehicle 5mins takes about 5hrs because of the insane holes that turn trucks over.
These holes have been credited to over 40 container and tanker falls.
So please PTF even if we have 2 wait for the contractors, please we need some rubbles to fill these potholes about 10 trips in all ... It would help also in decongesting traffic and making safe passage for haulagers.

Thank you.

When the PTF was set up to clear up the gridlock, they recorded a giant progress but they had to hand over to the state government.
