Why Can Japan Produce So Many Beautiful Music? by mohsinshehzad: 2:29pm On Nov 16, 2020
There is a saying in the music industry: "The melody is in Japan, the harmony is in Europe, and the rhythm is in Africa."These words are not unreasonable. In terms of melody, Japanese music has indeed been widely recognized worldwide. If you want to download good Japanese music, search on youtube and use flvto youtube to mp3 converter.

On video sites, the sincere and imaginative Japanese music melody also touched a lot of people all over the world.
Kenshi Yonezu’s hit single Lemon, has surpassed 500 million YouTube views. The number of native Japanese speakers in the world is just over 100 million. Therefore, many listeners who are moved by Japanese songs do not understand Japanese lyrics. Lyrics aside, in many Japanese songs, the melody itself is the winning factor. So why is the melody of Japanese songs so good? "Good" is a subjective concept, but we can use objective methods to deconstruct it.
1) scale
One of the reasons is that the scales used in Japanese music are very diverse. The scale is the DNA of melody creation. The use of different scales can create a unique emotional tone for the song: the Locrian mode scale is very gloomy and is usually used as the soundtrack for horror movies. The Phrygian (Frygian) mode scale is full of exoticism, making the song immediately full of Middle Eastern style.

In the use of scales, Japanese music has a big first-mover advantage: Japanese traditional music has four unique pentatonic scales. These scales are not only circulated in Japanese traditional music, but also frequently appear in various styles of J-POP pop songs. They have injected unique genes into the melody of Japanese music, allowing Japanese music to continue to absorb Western music techniques while retaining its own label.

2) lyrics
In addition to scales, the superiority of Japanese music melody can also be attributed to the high degree of coordination between its lyrics and melody. It can be said that Japanese music has long maintained the melody writing "using lyrics as the carrier": try to sing the song while maintaining the complete meaning of Japanese sentences. Many popular Japanese songs try to make a phrase correspond to a sentence with a complete meaning, and try not to spread a complete sentence into two lyrics, or split the sentence and spell it again. So many Japanese songs have a feeling called anthem in English. Although anthem itself means a song of praise, what many Japanese songs express is not religious enthusiasm, but a simple reluctance to life. ZARD’s famous song "Negative けないで (Don't Give Up)" expresses tearful upward energy through melody writing that clearly matches the lyrics. The chorus is very neat, and each phrase corresponds to ten syllables. It is catchy and the theme is clear: Don't give up, it's almost a success.

This combination of phrases and lyrics makes mainstream Japanese songs full of storytelling and "sense of vitality", and the clear sentences of lyrics make it easy for listeners to remember. At the same time, the relatively simple and gentle pronunciation of Japanese also makes the melody sung uniquely appealing. The same American country music, the Japanese cover version of "Kantori•Roudo" is a bit more "genuine" than John Denver's Take Me Home Country Roads. This kind of auditory experience caused by the pronunciation characteristics of the language itself may also make the audience interpret it as a cognition of melody.
