wellmax:Lol, the fact that youths in the south do not like farming means they are lazy? Where is your intelligence? The fact that there are Almajiris, ex Almajiris who can work in the farm in exchange for water means Southerners are lazy? The rich people in the North are the ones that own farms majorly, not an average youth. They invest lots of money in farming, they have cheap labour, thats why they are able to produce massively. Farming there is just like herding, the children herding cows are no different from slaves, looking tattered, uneducated, etc, same thing when you get to their farms. Will you now say those children are more hardworking than our children just because they spend every minute in the bush with cows? Again, Southerners are more hardworking than any Northerner that I have met. 5 Likes |

Not surprising. Onions alongside some other foods have always been cheaper in the north. |

slawormiir: Then try to do the same and realize what the actual problem is. Sure, it is cheaper in the north because that's the source of the produce By the time you pay for high transportation costs, spend days instead of hours on the road, and settle the uncountable police and military checkpoints along the road....do you expect the price to remain as low as it was in the north? Plus, there is less harvest due to bandits/terrorists activities. Just few days ago you saw in the news how farmers are tasked by bandits before they can harvest their crops. A village paid millions as tax to bandits just to be allowed to harvest their crops. Even that quantity of onions for ₦200 is expensive for Bauchi and the north in general. It had become expensive. The way the different retailers buy it from wholesalers in the various markets is same way they would sell. Are you trying to say all the market women and street side vendors in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Rivers, Imo, Delta etc all sat down, discussed and connived to increase the price of onions? |

ModestGal:You don't even know what laziness means. Check up your dictionary. You don't know them beyond what the media makes you think of them. Youths in he south are lazy. Its a FACT. Now, I didn't say ALL YOUTHS. Go to Delta, Warri, Bayelsa, Anabra, Lagos etc and see them there. An advice, get rid of the bile that is consuming you. Its hatred, not a virtue. |

How you guys make big issues out of trivialities beats my imagination. Someone is already bleating on the front page how the South will go extinct if the North decides not to send “onions” to the South again. Very funny set of people. These things have their season. When it’s not their season, you buy very small quantities at very high prices. Simple Economics theory. Now look at the sizes of those onions, very tiny things, just to tell you it’s not its season. When the season for onions to be in abundance again comes around, I hope all of you will still come back to post how much you bought a basket of onions. These things happen every year and onion is not the only food item that it affects. Tomatoes are another good example of what I’m talking about. 3 Likes |

slawormiir:This is true to an extent. But one cannot deny the fact that transportation these days is quite expensive. Most of the time, when you consider the cost of transporting these food items, they add their gain(albeit too high), and this becomes expensive for the end user. I could be wrong but I do not think there's even onions in the north like that judging from these ones Op bought that are way too small in size. |

honest1480:What limitation? You're the only one forcing the limitation on yourself when the truth is there for everyone to see. Are you in all part of the country to see what is going on with specific goods not distributed to all or the high cost ? Did I say many goods aren't arriving from North to other part of the country? Is it not on NAIRALAND a professor said hoarding of some Agriculture goods from North is a challenge to the south? I am clearly waiting my time on something that's not useful or just empty nothing more. |

ModestGal: Very typical, am I surprised? Definitely not. You do not know Nigeria as much as I do. You are probably in your 30s or less. I know you are lying though, so I am not going to trade words with you. You know nothing, its obvious, reason why you are quick to insults, that's all you do. Youths down south are lazy. moscobabs: You are not the only one in this thinking. We tagged them lazy and parasites when in fact, they're the real hardworking people. Farming is not easy but imagine people from the desert farming the year round and feeding people from the rainforest! All what we do here is sitting on crude oil by chance and assume that we are the real hard working people. Lol 1 Like |
