Top Nigerian Governors on Social Media

Today, Nigeria is witnessing the violent governmental suppression of End SARS; peaceful protests by the youth against police brutality and abuse of power that has been widely reported to target young Nigerians. Considering that young Nigerians (24 years and younger) account for *62.9% of the country’s total population, this shows a clear disconnect between Nigeria’s ruling class and the country’s largest demographic. How can we find a way to bridge this gap? Is there more that Nigerian government officials can do to connect with Nigerian youths?

“In the midst of anti-police brutality protests, we see potentially missed opportunities for many politicians to communicate more fluidly with the youth – the ones being targeted.” Said Justin Small, Managing Director of Electronics Nigeria. “Making the effort to meet your constituents where they spend much of their time – online – is an investment with positive returns for both sides.”

Considering that the majority of Nigerians are members of the Millennial and Gen-Z age-groups, we analyzed the social media presence of all 37 State Governors on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; we then ranked them to find who has the most total followers.
