You keep talking about structure and standards. grin
I'm asking who made it so?
Just because emails are used most times does not mean using other methods is unprofessional or not properly structured.
Where did you get the notion from that emails are used for an organization, but whatsapp is for one man business? grin abeg.

Based on my role and work experience. We don't use WhatsApp because WhatsApp own the data not the company. I mentioned One man business because they are most often to have less structure when starting out and I put the clause for non structured. I didn't say one man business only use WhatsApp for communication. Also Mary is wrong, but a proper professional introduction will be to introduce yourself and intent of the message at a go.

Whats wrong with

Good morning Mary, this is Mr Emmanuel from One man company and sons, we are contacting you to discuss your interest in our organization based on the email you sent us. Gbam all these would be avoided, then again Mary needs the job not him, so she's wrong for not having emotional intelligence also.

I do not support the lady's rudeness, but the company should have informed her on the method they would use to contact her in case she was selected. It is just standard procedure.

with all your standards will u hire an employee like her?

yes or no!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way the interview was conducted. His Salutations should have calmed her down; 'Hello Mary'.

He greeted her with her first name. What more was she expecting? The least she could have done is to be a little patient.

But no need to argue about this. The message has been passed. Even Mary would have learnt her lessons judging from the way she begged later on as if her life was dependent on that job.

Important question for you Sir;
With benefit of hindsight, do you think she will repeat this behaviour consciously in a subsequent experience?

That is the best answer to the question regarding if she was wrong or not.

I rest my case.
Life did not begin and end with this company, so Mary will get another job (most certainly).

But the company should upgrade their HR if they want to stay in business.

Peace.

Buzzing people on WhatsApp with strange numbers without prior notification is not a way to go about a recruitment excercise!

The company is not smart, it is just one of those mushroom companies that have no organization. It is companies like these that will owe you till eternity.

Well that remains to be proven. I'm more interested in the prospective employee who has already proven to be a potential toxicity was she erroneously hired.

Negative character trait can be used to judge an overall person's competence even though its wrong.

Whatever method they applied has nothing to do with her rudeness...she is simply rude and stupid.

Thank goodness she messed herself up at least to give room for others to be called.

this is the 21st century, some recruiters place calls to prospects. they dont have to have the number saved! buzzing at WhatsApp is not a taboo. go back and read d girls response after the first salutation.

No, the company didn't have to inform her the mode of contact. That is why you give your VALID numbers and mail addresses during job application.

They may want to test how you relate with people (strangers especially). The way you tested this aunty, I suppose.
You have said everything!
No company would like to hire a personnel that lacks interpersonal and intrapersonal skills!

I agree, but try and look at it from this perspective : you receiving a text from an anonymous number on WhatsApp is a breach on your privacy and security. And as you know, this is 9ja, and you cannot vouch for the next man. So her response is only natural given the circumstances

My friend stop supporting idiocy. Nobody invaded her stupid and poverty ravaged privacy. The moment she made her phone number public in application for a job, the employer is free to use the number in any platform at his disposal, which WhatsApp is a platform like that. Why didnt she give them her email if her number is her privacy? I can bet you, if the employer had called her in a direct call, that's how the bitch would've still responded or even worse. A mannerless girl is a mannerless girl, nothing can change her except situations like this. What happens to answering the greeting and politely ask "May I know you, please" or "Please I don't think i know or have met you before, could you please explain yourself ".... statements like this are super matured and polite. Even if the caller or the writer is a toaster, these lines of statements can knock him off balance for a moment and reset his views about the girl.
Anyways, Some nigerian and African girls are the worst set of women a man should talk to.

Lol, all what you wrote proves my point. It all depends on the company itself. This organization uses emails, the other uses other platforms because it's suitable to them. It doesn't make it less professional.
It all boils down to what means the company wants to share its information. You get?

Now, there's nothing wrong with Mr Emmanuel starting the conversation with a "Good evening". Get this, Absolutely nothing wrong . If you check the time stamps, you'd see that he wanted to arrive at that point of introduction, but first, he needs to confirm that it's actually Mary he's chatting with. How would you just text a number on WhatsApp and start introducing yourself when you're not sure that you're chatting with the right person? undecided It makes no sense.
It's not as if that if he doesn't introduce himself at the first text the world would end. undecided
C'mon... Finding fault in a "Hello, good evening Mary" is just you defending her attitude and manner which she responded. There's no two ways about it. If she didn't like the good evening, she should have ignored.
Even you won't respond that way.
If you're against his greeting at first, you're definitely in support of her response. Simple as that.
And if you read the full story, you'd see that he already called before texting, which she didn't pick.

Na lie! who knows whether even if it were evil intended for her, her politeness would avert it and change the mind of the person from harming her?
Let's not encourage nonsense pls.

Most ladies lack manners. I can remember last year during Jamb registration, a lady was having a serious issue doing regularisation of admission. She went to Jamb Office Umuahia but the person she met there directed her to come to my CBT center. That she should ask of Matthew (Which is me) that he will do it perfectly and settle the lingering problem easier. She was trying to go for service.

On getting to my office, I met her at the door. "Hellooo, good morning how are you and how may we be of help to you today" I said to her. The funny girl looked at me from hair to toe hissed and replied; "it's like you lack manners" maybe because she was brought in a Toyota Camry 2004 model. I felt like the ground to open and swallow me. I went out being embarrassed. The poor girl went into my office to report me to my staff. That it's like these stupid boys that work here are mannerless. The girl apologized, not knowing she was referring to me. She then said she was sent from Jamb office to meet one Mr Matthew. I was called. When I came in she found out that it was the same stupid boy she embarrassed at the entrance. She was silent for more than 5 minutes. The next thing was apology.
Trust me, I accepted the apology but I delayed her till jamb closed the portal for regularisation. At least she lost a year cos of that.
Women are just something else
She was wrong no doubt and she duly apologized afterwards whether she did with the right intention or not..

You said you accepted her apology but you still went on to pay her back and made her lose a year. Now tell me, what does that make you? You think you're any different from her?

Your post reeks of extreme foolishness and lack of consideration.
But let me ask you this :

1.What would it have cost the company to give the lady prior notice before reaching out to her ?

2. Should interviews be conducted on WhatsApp through strange numbers?

3. The HR agent did not even package his text well: he was breaking sentences like a would-be suitor. Who the hell does that?!
