President Muhammadu Buhari has boosted his administration’s efforts to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.

The President directed an increase in the number of beneficiaries for the National Social Investment Programmes.

He also directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to increase the number of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to 1,000,000.

President Buhari further directed an increase in the number of beneficiaries of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) by 1,000,000 and increase the beneficiaries of the Home-Grown School Feeding by 5,000,000.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, broke the news on Monday during a ministerial media briefing to give account of her ministry in the last one year in Abuja.

She said: “In a bid to realise Mr. President’s commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years, the ministry places significant emphasis on youth empowerment by strategically ascertaining youth engagement as a foundational objective in implementing the following strategies: double the scope of the National Social Investment Programmes.

“Mr. President has graciously approved the expansion of all NSIP programmes. Such as increase of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to 1,000,000, increase GEEP beneficiaries by 1,000,000 and increase of beneficiaries of Home-Grown School Feeding by 5,000,000.”

The minister said about 3.7 million households comprising of more than 15.5 million individuals have been captured on the National Social Register.

She said the ministry has developed a strategy for targeting the urban poor in line with President Buhari’s directive to expand the National Social Register.

“In championing Social Inclusion, deliberate efforts were made to capture vulnerable youth and groups which included Women, People with Special Needs, in the expansion of the National Social Register by one million households. Also, in the Economic Sustainability Plan, we have over 1,000,000 urban poor in the National Social Register.

“As of June 2020, 4.41 per cent of the total number of individuals captured in the National Social Register are recognised as persons with special needs. This comes to a total of 685,090 persons with special needs in the National Social Register.

“About 3.7 million households comprising of more than 15.5 million Individuals have been captured on the National Social Register. Of that number, over 2.8 million of the households which comprise of 13.5 million individuals are eligible for Conditional Cash Transfer. This numbers are spread across the 36 states and FCT. The numbers are further broken down to 7.6 million males and 7.9 million females as shown on the screen,” she said.

Which 500,000 Npower beneficiaries are they talking about?
Didn't I read here that the beneficiaries have been exited from the program and new set of intake processes started?
A process that have remained ongoing for up to a year now, which I'm sure none of the new applicants has any success story to tell us.
Who are the Npower beneficiaries he is talking about and where is all these monies going into?
They just bring up one dubious statement and 'viam' our money disappears.
Then Zombies in their usual characteristics, will be praising and clapping hands.

They are feeling the pressure and are scrambling helter skelter to patch this leaking drum called Nigeria.
If these politicians and senior civil servants could just pause for 1 month; ONE MONTH o! and not loot what's meant for the masses in only that period, a lot of the heat felt on the streets will reduce in a way that can be noticed by all.
Instead, they'll now be cracking their brains on how to corner payouts in bulk from these increase in numbers, greatly reducing any expected positive impacts.

It is how it has been for a long time now. Good policies implemented by any government are subverted by the greedy ones who hoard anything from free mosquito nets, to security personnel, to budgeted funds meant for the many.

We need a one month ceasefire!
The other alternative will be chaos! It has gotten out of hands in this country in ALL sectors.

No government can provide jobs for all it's citizens.,.....use your tongue to count your teeth,......the essence of all these social investment program (empowerments) is to support/enable these low/no income earners do something to support themselves..... unfortunately the leadership/greedy Nigerians in charge are frustrating these good gestures.......Buhari meant well for this country but the corruption/greed is too high......

It's is the duty of the Government to provide Jobs for the Citizens and it's has been the yard stick to measuring Government performance anywhere in the world except your dreams.

In your dreams, 30,000 would serve as capital to drive SMEs. The moment Government chose not to have business in business was the period Unemployment graph started going North.

I appreciate your efforts in defending the Government but when next they pay you your cut, tell them this simple truth

I personally know a beneficiary who has been able to appy for his Msc and completed thanks to the payment from N-power. And he didn't grease no palms or know anybody.
I know another in Abuja who actually starred his current business all thanks to N-power.
so I say again, The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.
About the new intakes, they run the program in batches just like the NYSC, so it is not the last intake that is going out of the system
