A statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State by the President of the association, Chinazom Nwankpa, said Soyinka and Opara were honoured by institutionalisation of annual lecture in their names.

He said "Other notable advocacy and charity activities carried out by the organization include; Wole Soyinka Lecture Series. The Wole Soyinka Lecture Series is an annual event in honour of Prof. Wole Soyinka, Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature, which seeks to address a theme of current human need locally or internationally.

"The Ralph Opara Memorial Lectures is a memorial lecture to honour the memory of late Ralph Opara, one of the founding seven members of the pyrates confraternity and his spirit of moral courage and vision, which he exemplified.

"It provides a forum to seek solution and understand national and global issues of an urgent nature.

Nwankpa said another area the fraternity handled in their recent meeting was the sensitisation of the public on women's rights

He said,"Our members came out in their numbers to create awareness on the streets of Akure, to sensitize the general public on the rights of Women and girls; the need for them to be protected from every form of violence.

"Our banners had various slogans that projected support for the protection of the right of women and girls, the placards were also distributed to women to strike a pose for a wider coverage on all social media channels.
