According to the reports, A 47yr old man who is Identified as Emmanuel Thompson has been arrested and sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Purposely raping his 14yr old step daughter in Calabar.

He was also found guilty for raping the 14yr old girl on August, 2018 at his home at No 54, Afokang street, Calabar South Local Government area.

From the reports gained, He was Sentenced by the Hon. Justice E.E Ita, Acting Chief Judge of Cross River State and presiding Judge of the Family Court on December 3.

The Sentence was Assured by the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI); Hon. Tanko Ashang, former Attorney General of Cross River State; Mr. Felix Itittim, the DPP; Blessing Egwu and the Nigeria Police.

Barr. James Ibor, the Head of BRCI, said the rape incident was revealed after the victim’s mother reported the matter to the group. He also revealed that the victim was happy when she heard of the Sentence of the Man.

Barr. James Ibor thanked the Nigeria Police special investigators; the former Cross River State Attorney General, Hon. Tanko Ashang; the DPP-Mr Felix Itittim and Blessing Egwu for their effort in securing justice for the victim.

“Thanks to the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative team providing support to the survivor through out the period of investigation and trial.”
