Hello Nairalanders.....A close friend of mine was to return to Nigeria from china early this year but due to covid-19 pandemic decided to stay back a bit till everything was clear...

Fast forward to now after booking for his flight ticket which has a stopover in hongkong,he was denied boarding a plane in Shanghai cos he doesn't have an hongkong transit visa which he never knew of or told and his visa expires in 3days and getting the hongkong transit visa takes 4 weeks.....

Please experienced nairaland travellers and guys currently residing in China, please what countries can he has stop-overs or connecting flights to that doesn't require transit visa... .

Pls help urgently so he won't overstay his visa or have issues with Chinese authorities because he is operating under a low budget after expending so much to exorbitant flight tickets rates and other Chinese authorities wahala....

I know Turkey aka Turkish airlines doesn't require transit visa. I don't know if Etihad would need transit visa for naija peeps cos I dint fly them with green pkali so I wouldn't know if its required for Nigerians.

Thanks for this bro,Turkish airlines only connects after stopover at Heathrow airport,so don't know if UK allows transit visa for naija peeps.....

Hmn, that's bad. If only you could find a complete Turkish airlines flight from start to finish so the stopover would be in Turkey. Yes, Heathrow needs a transit visa. Germany needs it too.
OK, do it this way, look for flights you are Interested in, see what countries they stop over and then google if Nigerians need transit visas for those stop over countries. If possible call and ask.

Its called transit visa cos he isn't comming out of the airport. He is on TRANSIT!

Well I've never needed one....i understand some airlines don't require one as long as you're staying within the airport until you next flight

His ticketing agent can offer him the answer he needs. China to nigeria is a busy route, they should be one flight with one or two stopover thay doesn't need the transit visa...

Qatar,kualar Lumpur,Hongkong and Heathrow airport are where the airline stopover and they all seems to require transit visa from naija passport holders

You can apply for the transit visa, there may be an option for a fast-track. Immigration officers might help but I won't hold my breath on that.

Or find another airline with a stopover in another country like Turkish airline. It might be more expensive, better find the money. This is the best alternative, Chinese immigration laws are rigid.

Well in airports the passangers might have to leave one terminal and head to another in transit.

If you will leave the airport compound totally then you need more than transit visa. I think the USA doesn't issue transit visa, you need an American visa to transit through. Its just to avoid runaway people. Different countries have different laws.

How did he board the plane to China? What airline did he use, can't he use them again?
What airline did he fly and what was the route?
