One of the Red Brick Universities, a collection of historic universities around industrial cities of the UK, the former Queens College is possibly the largest university on this list with over 35,000 students across four campuses. Since receiving university status at the beginning of the 20th Century, it has expanded since its beginning as a school of medicine, to now include over 30 departments across five faculty groups. It has off-campus facilities such as a Shakespearean institute in Stratford-Upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s birthplace and an Observatory. It is currently ranked 15th in the UK.

5. The Nottingham Trent University - 225 st.

Based in Nottingham School of Design, Nottingham Trent has expanded since 1992 to a degree beyond its humble beginnings to become the 9th largest university in the UK, matching the city’s main higher education institution, the University of Nottingham, with over 33,000 students, all while maintaining an 87% student satisfaction.
