Soy milk is a plant-based nondairy beverage, often consumed as an alternative to milk and made from soybeans. It is very similar in nutrition to a low-fat cow's milk. It is a great alternative for people who are on a strict nondairy product diet and also for people who generally do not like the taste of cow milk.
It's also good for people who are lactose intolerant (that is, people who find it difficult to digest a sugar called lactose, which is present in cow's milk).

Nutritional facts:
An average soy milk contains the following all in one cup:
*Protein: 7g
*Carbohydrates: 3g
*Sugars: 1g (no added sugars)
*Fat: 4g
*Saturated fat: 0.5g
*Fibre: 2g
*Calories: 80

Soy milk however, has a very low amount of calcium (almost negligible) unlike cow's milk and other dairy products. That said, it is recommendable to add calcium sources to soy milk to reap the benefits of calcium or you go for brands whose soy milks are fortified (contains calcium and vitamin D).

Some of the potential health benefits of consuming soy milk are:

1. It helps improve blood circulation:
Soybean contains two essential minerals (iron and copper) which are vital for the production of red blood cells. With an appropriate amount of red blood cells in the body, the essential organ systems can get proper oxygen and blood flow they need to function efficiently.

2. It aids healthy digestion:
Soybean contains dietary fibre in high quantities. Dietary fibre is essential for total body functioning and plays a vital role in the digestive system as it stimulates the peristaltic motion in the body (which is the contraction of muscles in the digestive system that push food through the system), bulking up our stool while letting it move smoothly through our intestines and out of our body. This is why people suffering from constipation are advised to consume foods high in fibre as it aids proper bowel movements.

3. It aids healthy weight management:
Soybeans aid in regulating insulin levels thereby preventing obesity in a healthy manner. It's high protein content helps in the development of leaner muscles and also helps you stay fuller, preventing you from eating unhealthy snack at odd hours.

4. It improves heart health:
Soybean are a good source of healthy unsaturated fats that can help you lower the cholesterol in your body. There are certain fatty acids required for a healthy cardiovascular system, two of which are found in soybeans (called linoleic acid and linolenic acid, popularly known as omega-3 fatty acids). Consuming soybean can help boost your cardiovascular system by reducing the bad cholesterol levels along with taking care of your brain and vision.

5. It's good for healthy bones:
Soybeans have high mineral and vitamin content. These mineral elements help in keeping the bones stronger, allow new bones to grow out, promotes osteotropic activity while speeding up the bone's healing process. Health experts believe that consuming soybeans and soy products can be a long-term solution for treating problems like osteoporosis, which is a common condition affecting old age.

6. It is essential during pregnancy:
Soybean is rich in folic acid and vitamin B complex that is very essential for pregnant women. Pregnant women are told to consume soy-based organic products as folic acid in soybean helps in the prevention of neural tube defects in infants, ensuring a healthy delivery as well as a healthy baby.

7. It may help manage diabetes:
Eating soybeans is an effective way to manage and prevent diabetes as it has the ability to increase the insulin receptors in the body. The carbohydrate content in soybean is incredibly low, which makes it a good anti-diabetic food.
Eating soybeans will also help to regulate your blood sugar levels and make sure it doesn't spike thanks to the soy isoflavones .

8. It relieves menopausal symptoms:
Like earlier mentioned, soybeans contain isoflavones in abundance, which is a vital component of the female reproductive system. When women reach menopause, they experience a drastic drop in estrogen levels. This can lead to several menopausal symptoms like hot flushes, abdominal cramps, hunger pains, mood swings, etc. Isoflavones bind the estrogen receptors in a way that the body doesn't feel the change.

9. It helps relieve sleep disorders:
Soybean contain magnesium in high amounts which is linked to increasing the quality, restfulness and the duration of your sleep. It would be very beneficial to include that in your daily diet.

10. It possess anti-cancer properties:
High levels of antioxidants in soybeans could help prevent the onset of numerous cancers and remove free radicals from the body.
Antioxidants are responsible for neutralizing free radicals, which if not checked, can cause healthy cells to turn into deadly tumors and cancer cells.
Free radicals are perilous byproducts of cellular metabolism, which need to be neutralized. It can also reduce the side effects of cancer treatments.

Yes, that's another added advantage of consuming it. Although, this may not work for everybody because our body mechanisms are different.

Nonetheless, the list of it's advantages goes on and on.
