It is no longer news that most private schools in Nigeria do not pay their teachers good salary. Most graduates who have taught in private schools complain that the renumeration is very poor.

Access to reasonable industry experience or career development is almost non existent in private schools except for those who want to remain in the teaching line.

So for instance, as an engineering graduate, you can't gather any industry experience while teaching that will be beneficial to you in your future career in engineering.

These are my thoughts. You can add yours. What do you think??

How many private school proprietors pay good salary? Infact that job is more than worst collar job but I won't blame them because there's no regulation hence everyone takes advantage to enslave others. There's no crime in opening private school but minimum standard similar to those paying well should be set by govt agency so that both employer and employee will be happy at the end but the case in this zoo country is different, NOTHING is regulated because of corruption. Nepa/Ibedc is doing his own in one corner, mtn/glo and co are doing their's, DStv and co are doing their's too, so also these wicked school proprietors.

Such phrase does not befit the educational sector.
Poorly motivated teachers will get easily distracted by side jobs.
I thought private schools were setup to improve standard of education
due to decaying status of public schools.
Seems most private schools have turn to money making ventures by proprietors.

I cannot teach more than one subject as done in public schools.
It is ridiculous to see job descriptions like teaching 2 to 3 subjects.
That is exploitation and nothing else.

Zero career growth.
Zero salary increase.
Reduction of life span.
I know a person who earns up to 300k monthly as a teacher though, but that category is less than 3% of the teachers' population nationwide.

Only a few pay well.

Most Private school owners are not even educationally inclined. All they want is money, they don't value teachers.

I once taught in a private school, asides the teaching experience, some progressive teachers and rapport with students, every other thing was a nightmare.

Nope. It depends on the school. You know private schools have levels.

At least I know saints saviour teachers earn high. Had a colleague who did her IT there and she was earning 150k. And every Christmas they are entitled to one bag of rice, 1carton of turkey and 10 litre vegetable oil + your one month salary as bonus.

The head of their school Mrs Griffin's earns in dollars. A parent told me that.
Now imagine how much their full timers will be earning.

Ive not even talked about corrona, British international High school and Loyola.

These schools are better than some company jobs.

It depends.

My mum is a sch proprietress & Godfearing.

She pays full salary first week of every month. It depends on how you coordinate yourself.

Another advice is to work in a church owned school like catholic/anglican. They pay well & they hardly owe staffs.
