To be honest, no Nigerian artist deserves to be nominated for a Grammy especially with the rubbish music and supbar lyrics they feed us everyday.

You people read too much into this Grammy. There are 10000000000 artists who are celebrated who have never won a grammy. I dont understand this ...... and its even for one little known category sef. When people watch the grammy the award that everyone concentrates on is not the international category sef

God will bless you immensely, asides bad leadership, most citizens of this country have low self worth, have you seen Indians drag their artistes for not getting Grammy? must a group of selected white elites determine our best artistes for us?

Because of this useless Grammy awards, some of our musicians had to alter their original style that brought them to limelight, I am sorry to say this, most blacks always seek the validations of whites on most issues which is sickening, I long for a day when Cardi B, Chris Brown, Justin Beiber etc would all strive and jostle to win an award organized and hosted in Nigeria.
now a thread in on front page with the intent to ridicule one of our own with original Nigerian sounds and contents.

Every emperor has an empire. Every king has a jurisdiction. Every president has a defined territory. Nigeria's president is more influential than Togolese president but less influential than US President.

Davido is a king in Nigerian Music Industry, but Grammy is for those whose musics are imperial.

Do you understand?
Seems this Nairaland is always against Davido..please tell me as Wizkid ever been nominated for Grammy?

It's Grammy season, the time to celebrate nominations of our favorite Nigerian artists. Sadly, only one Nigerian artist made it to the 2021 Grammy nomination list. And that is the self-acclaimed African Giant, Burna Boy. His recent album, Twice as Tall was nominated under the Best Global Music Albumillioory.

Davido fans have been asking the one millionn dollar question, why has Davido never been nominated for a Grammy award, why wasn't he nominated for the 2020 grammy, and again the 2021 grammy?

Well, watch the video below, as we answer this question.

I don't like noise, and I'm far from being oyinbo... Over 90 percent of Nigerian musicians are not Grammy worthy!!! This is neither hate nor inferiority complex.

Music goes beyond beats, dance-ability, and noise.... How many Nigerian artistes have lyrical content, depth and dexterity??!...

When you listen to songs of the 80s and early 90s, you will be truly and rightly saddened at how our musical standards have horrendously plummeted.

You have said it all bro.
Well said!!!

This is how you Africans continue to f00l yourselves. How can Grammy define your (own) class, concept and originality?

What's your definition of good enough? If 80% of Nigerians, including folks in Northern Nigeria, vibe to Rekaado Banks' or Davido's song, the song is not good enough because it didn't meet Grammy's "foreign" standard??

Mehn, you Africans are fucking disgraceful!

This is why Latin as a race got its own Grammy (Latin Grammy). You Africans will never get your 'own' Grammy because people like Burna Boy will continue to dish out foreign concepts mixed with South African Zulu-beats to fit in, a concept most Nigerians can't relate with.

Oh Please... Take a breather, and smell the roses!!!

Music is universal in appeal... Quality of music goes way beyond dance-able beats!

How many of today's Nigerian songs will be as evergreen as those of the following:

Onyeka Onwenu
Sunny Okosun
Fela
2face Idibia (African Queen especially)
Sunny Ade
Shina Peters
Oliver De Coque
Chris Okotie
Asa
Bantu
Nick Mbarga
Plantashun Boiz

Just to Mention a few...

It is not about Grammy, Soul Train, BET, or those overhyped foreign awards... It is about overall quality. It has been declining for years now. Let's face facts!!!

You guys should stop carrying this vain concept of Grammy being biased. Upon all the news of being biased, Grammy has never lost its relevance unlike our own Headies.

Most international artists that haven't had a Grammy are simply throwing the racist card up and down. What happens is that artists like Sia, one of my favs that is yet to get a Grammy, usually get nominations when there is real competition.

Cardi B got a Grammy for best rap album in a period when there was lil or no competition. Other nominees were wack then.

Davido is a goo performer and that's that. His money have helped him pushed his songs very well. Also, Davido is an hardworking guy. If Wande Coal had the passion and finance as Davido, he would have gotten a Grammy without breaking a sweat. But Davido winning a Grammy? Die that thought abeg. E get why!

I care about IMPACT in NIGERIA. If most Nigerians relate with Davido's Holy Ground or The Best (ft. Mayorkun) more than Burna Boy's Wonderful South African zulu-beats, then Davido is BETTETRthan Burna Boy. I don't care what an outsider or a Grammy employee thinks about the song.

Nigerians back then relate with King Sunny Ade. He never won Grammy.

You are absolutely right. A good and decent home won't allow underage kids listen to Nigerian musics (hip hop). Their videos are nothing but porns

Honestly, no hard feelings even if I do, it won't matter.

If not that David has money (enormous wealth) to push his songs himself, name one producer or label that would wanna invest in him.

Thank God, oyinbos have produced machines, technologies that can make ur music sound so out of this world. Good beats, sequencing and all.

Remember when it was claimed that even JLo wasn't the one that voiced some of her songs

That's why many of them can't perform live on stage, or do meaningful freestyle sessions.... They have absolutely no real musical talent or ability.

Good point sir...

Impact within your home country is good, but let's be honest, is it enough??!

Jerusalema song by Southie's own Master KG is pure homegrown and deep rooted in Africa yet went global (The best hit from Africa this year without question). Why??! It is everything music should be!!! Grammy nomination be damned, that song is loved by any music lover regardless of nation, culture or ethnicity.... Same with Sinach's Waymaker (It was even remade by established foreign artistes).

I don't know how else to get this point across to you... Our musicians need to work harder and better on their craft. Beats are not enough!!!

Have some Africans not being nominated or even won Grammy b4 so why making it seem impossible? Check the standards and see what it takes.

Many American artists don’t also win Grammy or get norminated cos the competition is high And don’t meet the standards.

African music especially Nigerian music lack a lot even though it has improved greatly. We majorly lack global appeal. Like can an American or Europeans vibe to Ure music without overly trying to patronize u cos ur African bt cos ur music is different or dat good?

Yes the chances are slimmer for Africans cos of the categories bt that also means u have to be the best to get there.

So he did Zulu beats to fit in. Just imagine.

Is it dat Davido has never used SA beats before? Is it that some international acts has never infused afro beats in their songs?

Is it SA beats that guarantees Grammy now?

Bro, if you are good, you are good. Music is beyond beats, noise, and hype. Although you need some of these to expose your music, but good music is meant to be an art. Not pangolo jollof music.

Why dem kan dey Para Para for me?

Lyk seriously? Is he the only one on earth? Everything does not revolves around him though.

Davido should start by putting empathy in his songs. That will push him up

They are many artist in Nigeria that has good lyrical content
Go listen to real life by burnaboy
Just that not all their song have that lyrical content cus they want to give what most Nigerian want thats y u see people by naira Marley and people with no meaningfull content strive in nigeria
Cus most Nigerian pay attention to the beat and how danceable the song is

For me stick to my foreign playlist
If I see music with good content , beat and information I listen to it
