TEF partners EU to empower women from 54 countries

The Tony Elumelu Foundation, TEF, has announced a partnership with the European Union, EU, to identify, train, mentor and fund 2,500 young African women entrepreneurs in 2021.

A statement by the foundation says the partnership will disburse 20 million in financial and technical support for women-owned businesses across all the 54 African countries while providing increased access to market linkages, supply chains and venture capital investments.

According to the statement, the engagement will strengthen and deepen the EU-Africa partnership, build on the platform and experience of the US$100 million TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, and forms part of the EU External Investment Plan to support women economic empowerment within the EU Gender Action Plan (GAP III).

It noted that the partnership will also unlock the dynamic potential of African women entrepreneurs, directly catalysing African’s economic growth and contributing to Africa’s prosperity and social development.

Commenting on the partnership, Founder of TEF, Mr Tony Elumelu, said: “We are delighted to partner with the European Union, sharing our unique ability to identify, train, mentor and fund young entrepreneurs across Africa. This joint effort will prioritise and provide economic opportunities for African women, whom for too long have endured systemic obstacles to starting, growing and sustaining their businesses. Our partnership will alleviate the funding, knowledge and market constraints threatening the livelihoods of women entrepreneurs on the continent, to create more income, jobs, growth and scale for women-owned businesses.”

‘The programme is co-funded by the European Union, the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific State (OACPS), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), will further scale the Foundation’s efforts in directly addressing some of the most endemic challenges to African start-ups skills and capacity gaps, financial constraints and lack of access to mentoring, networks and market linkages.

Also commenting, Commissioner for International Partnerships at EU, Jutta Urpilainen, said, “This partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation will help women participants in economic development, realise their full potential and accelerate economic inclusion. Empowering women entrepreneurs is a key driver for sustainable jobs and growth, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and in line with the objectives of our African Strategy. Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and they deserve equal opportunities.”

tell people how you feel about them. literally. if someone made you smile today, tell them. if a thought crosses your mind about how much someone means to you, tell them. i’m 99.9% sure the recipient will be overjoyed to know that they were thought of in such a positive light. your words and your actions make a difference.

so,nigerian women have to drag the empowerment slots with 54 countries. Nawa o, problem no dey finish. Nigeria is a country where the benefactors of empowerments are either party members, society leaders or people of affluence. Nice development from Tony

Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world.

Charity begins at home. Let them reason Nigerian matter first before dragging the other 53 nations into the chaos.

I don't understand this Tony Elumelu Foundation hypocrisy, isn't it supposed to only focus on Nigeria and beat the poverty level before spreading across the continent, nonsense

There's a hidden agenda about that TEF, they say charity begins at home, shouldn't it be only for Nigerians at these difficult times before trying to solve poverty problem across Africa, I suspect it's a means to have global contribution, it's just like the lottery PSquare Peter is doing, thousands of people will pay 500 naira which will amount to up to 20 million every week but baba will be doing like he's doing charity

The future is for those who prepare for it, if you think your gender is a ticket for a good future, you are in for a shock

Now why are you bringing feminism into this?

And for your information, the future isn't female,it's for Any gender who strives to work hard and make an impact in the world. Being a woman doesn't Automatically Guarantee your success in The future. You are an Hypocrite if you are a feminist and still depend on Your boyfriend for Basically Everything, you are an Hypocrite if you are a feminist And still believe Men shouldn't hit Women(Even when hit by same woman first)

Queen Elizabeth and her line of Queens has been Ruling Great Britain For Centuries now. She didn't say that Crap in your comment

Plato, Aristotle,Socrates,Isaac Newton,Albert Einstein, the Wright brothers all made Valuable contributions to philosophy, physics and the world at large, but none of them said Any crap about The future being male
