CHRISTMAS: FED, LAWMAKER'S WIFE MAUREEN UMANAH CELEBRATES WITH WOMEN OF ABAK/ETIM EKPO/IKA

In the spirit of the yuletide, Wife of the member representing Abak/Etim-Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Deaconess. Maureen Aniekan Umanah, Tuesday, distributed bags of rice and cash to women drawn from 34 wards in the federal constituency.

Sharing the items at Abak, the lawmaker's wife who noted that giving has always been her custom, said the gesture is in line with her husbands' agenda of quality representation and massive empowerment, particularly in ensuring food sufficiency for his people. Dcns. Umanah thanked the women for standing by her husband and the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel and urged them to continue in their unalloyed support to the government and assured them of more rewarding returns for their steadfastness.

Commending the governor's wife for facilitating the elections and appointments of women into government positions, Dcns. Umanah said, "today, women in Akwa Ibom State do not only have 35% representation in government, we have more than 50% with the elections of about 60% women as vice Chairmen in our LGAs, Councilors, SAs to governor and many other government positions. Today, voices of women are heard in all nooks and crannies of our State and outside the State courtesy of our amiable First Lady, Dr. Dcns. Martha Udom Emmanuel".

Dcns. Umanah charged the federal constituency women to continue in their unflinching support to the governor's wife and prayed God to grant her the enablement to do more for the women.

Reacting, the First lady of Abak, Mrs Ekerette Inyang, her Etim-Ekpo counterpart, Mrs. Esther Ime Afia, that of Ika, as well as the wife of the House of Assembly Member for Ika/Etim-Ekpo State Constituency, Mrs. Mfon Idung and the President, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women Forum, Mrs. Inibehe Silas, among others commended the lawmaker's wife for her gesture at such a time when the economy is experiencing recession and the challenges posed by the new wave of COVID-19.

They prayed God to reward Mrs. Umanah and her family for her benevolence to the women of the federal constituency.
