Authorities of the University of Ilorin have said that 140 students of the institution have been expelled for poor performance, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The Registrar of the university, Mrs Olufolake Oyeyemi, made the disclosure in Ilorin on Tuesday in an interview with the NAN.
She said that more than 1,000 students were also advised to withdraw from the institution for failure to have required minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average.
The worst hit in the list of students advised to withdraw were students from the Faculty of Sciences where no fewer than 653 students were affected while humanities and social sciences shared the rest.
Oyeyemi, who spoke through the Director of Information, Dr Mafouz Adedimeji, said the expelled students faced the institution’s disciplinary committee before they were rusticated.
She said that some of the students expelled were found guilty of examination malpractices, indiscipline, and failure to register for a whole session among other offences.
The registrar said that limited spaces were still available for some students in the Faculty of Medicine where some 100 level students had also been advised to withdraw from the programme.
