The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 19 northern states and FCT has rallied around Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah who in his Christmas message accused President Muhammad Buhari of sacrificing the dreams of Nigerians to institutionlise a northern hegemony.

Kukah who also said there was no way any none- northern Muslim president could have done fraction of what the president has done in the area of nepotism and gotten away with it said, "there would have been military coup a long time ago, we would have been at war",

His statement has been described by the presidency as an attempt to struck the embers of hatrage , sectarian strife and nation disunity while the Muslim Right Concern (MURIC) has described Kukah's statement as "reckless , inflammatory and unguarded".

However, in it reaction , northern CAN through it vice Chairman, Rev.John Hayab stated that it read with a great shock attempts to further divide the nation by presidency, the leadership of MURIC and other individuals and groups aimed at twisting the Crux of the homily Bishop Kukah gave at Christmas.

The statement added:" of grave misgiving the baseless claim in a statement sign by the president of MURIC , Prof Ishaq Akintola, that Bishop Kukah had ' referred to Islam as a violent religion" and " call for coup.

That such a statement coming from Prof Akintolar is not only laugheble but misleading and tissue of lies.

It described MURIC's response as misleading and inciting and called on the international as well as the local community to particularly counsel Prof. Akintola of MURIC to learn to walk the path of honour and not be a merchant of crisis.

" Reading through Bishop Kukah's " A nation in search of vindication" CAN unable to find and expression suggesting an affront to Islam or a call for coup . Sadly, MURIC aims to incite citizens against another along the lines of faith instead of denouncing the insecurity witness across the country which is the point Bishop Kukah's message .

Hayab stated the memory of the gruesome killing of 76 farmers in Borno and abduction of kankara boys remains fresh and accused MURIC of keeping silent in those tragedies.

"Now from the blues as Bishop Kukah talk the truth to power , we read unscrupulous statement aimed at painting black a message that was clear and concise alerting the government of failure on the security of lives and property of Nigeria",he said.

"Given the current happening in Nigeria with kidnapping , banditry, horrible atrocities committed against helpless citizens by members of Boko Haram, Nigeria should unit in condemning and find solutions to the awful condition that we are in as Bishop Kukah has rightly done.

The real enemies of Nigeria are those calling for Rev. Fr. Kukah's head. They are beneficiaries of a failed system made worse by a failed and tribalistic presidency. (Buhari is just figure head).

Conscience is like an open wound, only truth can heal it. Until this country is ready to face the truth, the glaring failure in governance will be magnified and we pray it does not lead to implosion.

The fact is that the bishops in this country have got a massive platform they have refused to use to end evil... I understand the concept of separating the church from the state, what I don't understand is how that directly translates to the church keeping quiet and allowing evil to thrive! What this administration has done by allowing the merchants of evil called the fulani herdsmen to roam and main free across the country is nothing but a crime against humanity! It should be challenged and the bishops shouldn't just be at their pulpits preaching forgiveness to the downtrodden, they should also go the extra mile by calling out the perennial oppressors. It's better for the people to be on the streets marching against tyranny and sectionalism in government than for them to be caught up in a war orchestrated by the evil actions of a wayward tyrant..
