Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Isidingo40(m): 9:10am On Jan 02, 2021 |
Recently, a Nigerian actress, Etinosa Idemudia unraveled how she was ailed by a condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) for seven years, leading to a number of miscarriages before eventually welcoming a child. In a society like ours where many people eschew talking about ailments that imperil them -- especially infertility issues -- it was quite refreshing to see how Etinosa's Instagram post encouraged other women who were experiencing similar crisis and provided an opportunity for public enlightenment about this gynaecological condition. PCOS is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with the disease may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. Doctors diagnose PCOS if women have at least two of three main symptoms -- high androgen levels, irregular periods, and cysts in the ovaries. A pelvic exam, blood tests, and ultrasound can confirm the diagnosis. At Reformer Ultrasound Centre, we offer these diagnostic services at reasonable prices with professional dexterity and quality care for our clients.
