Disease X Could provoke another pandemic

Should people who have had COVID-19 get a vaccines

With COVID-19 still ever-present in our lives as the world enters a third wave of breakouts, another threat is looming over humanity which could become the next pandemic.

The so-called 'Disease X' is worrying scientists at the World Health Organisation (WHO), who have stated that it could cause another epidemic in the next few years.

Each year the WHO instructs a committee of experts to update its list of the most threatening infectious diseases that lack effective treatment or vaccines.

Although there is hope that with the COVID-19 vaccine being rolled out around the world will see that type of coronavirus disappear, the WHO are concerned that a 'Disease X' could be just around the corner, which could weaken the world's population and economy even more so than COVID-19 did.

What is 'Disease X'?

'Disease X' is what the WHO call the next as yet unnamed disease which could cause a new global pandemic and after being caught cold regarding COVID-19, scientists are not wanting history to repeat itself.

Virologist Jean-Jacques Muyembe Tamfum, who investigated the world's first Ebola outbreak in 1976, has pointed out that new pathogens will emerge that may be more dangerous.

"Now we are in a world where new pathogens will emerge, which constitutes a threat to humanity," he said.

He also explained that 'Disease X' could spread as fast as COVID-19 and be even more dangerous to the world's population.

As contagious as COVID-19, but more lethal

Muyembe believes that these new diseases will be as contagious as coronavirus, but much more deadly.

He also predicts that there are also more zoonotic diseases to come from the ecological destruction of wildlife.

A number of diseases such as coronavirus, yellow fever, rabies, influenza, brucellosis and Lyme disease are indeed transmitted from animals to humans.

As natural habitats disappear, animals such as rats, bats and insects survive where large animals are eradicated. The aforementioned animals are able to live alongside humans and could become vectors that transmit diseases to humans

Perilous times are here, everything looks gloomy. But the good news is that we serve a living God.
