On the 23rd of August 2020, there was an altercation between the indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) and the DSS in Emene section of Enugu city. The fracas led to the commissioner of Police Enugu state, Ahmed Abdulrahman, leading a combined team of Army, Police, SARS, Airforce and Anti-kidnapping unit to invade the area. According to Abdulrahman, DSS were on routine patrol when they were attacked by IPOB and two DSS were killed while one was kidnapped. So they mobilised to rescue the kidnapped DSS operative. While addressing the Press, Abdulrahman paraded 5 IPOB members who were arrested. One of them was Obinna Irolele, he was also interviewed by Channels Tv on that day. In the Video below Obinna Iroele narrates what really happened that day, how he was arrested, his journey to detention and his eventual release.

Obinna Irolele claimed that IPOB had been using a community school in Emene for Sunday prayers and morning exercises for months without any qualms. Trouble started on the morning of August 23rd 2020 when DSS invaded the School and arrested 3 IPOB members they met at the gate. When the rest came out to enquire what the problem was, the DSS opened fire on them killing some and quickly jumped into their Hilux vans and made away with the 3 people they had already arrested. The rest of them got angry and started making bonfires to protest being shot at. He also said that IPOB was not armed. Later, a combined team of Army, Police, Airforce etc invaded the place and started shooting sporadically. It was while trying to rescue an IPOB member shot in the back that Iroele was arrested along with the guy he was trying to help. In total, 5 of them were arrested, tied up, beaten and taken to Abdulrahman who quickly paraded them in front of the Press. Iroele was interviewed in that Press conference.The person who was shot was taken to hospital while the remaining 4 were detained at state CID. The next day, they were taken to court where they were charged for treason, murder and unlawful assembly, to which they all pleaded not guilty. They were then remanded in Nsukka prisons for two weeks before being transferred to Enugu prisons. Prison was an eyeopener for him as he learnt that you had to pay to for everything. You had to pay to stretch your legs in the prison courtyard, use a phone, eat non prison food, see visitors etc. He said that the prison system was totally corrupt. He also said that the 3 people arrested by DSS were still in jail because the authorities claim their case file was 'lost'. Eventually he and others were taken to court but since there was no evidence against them, they were discharged and acquitted. He thanked the IPOB legal team led by Ejiofor and Ejimakor for all they have done for him and many others, and appealed to all Biafrans to remain strong in their belief for the actualisation of Biafra
