Why Comparing VP Yemi Osinbajo To Mike Pence Is Absurd by murecool(m): 7:51pm On Jan 07, 2021
That VP Osinbajo has not acted in the defence of democratic norms in Nigeria or that he has sided with acts that violate the Nigerian constitution are not only deliberately, misleading and unconscionable, such a claim is also wicked.

The VP respects and upholds the tenets of the Constitutions and rule of law. Besides his active pro-people advocacy and activities in govt in his capacity as VP, it was VP Osinbajo (then as Acting President) who fired the former DG, SSS when he violated the sanctity of the National Assembly. As Acting President, the VP had then described the unauthorised takeover of the National Assembly complex “as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order.”

It was VP Osinbajo who rallied inside govt to condemn police brutality and start the ending of SARS. It was Osinbajo that openly condemned SARS and secured Presidential authority to dissolve SARS. According to the VP, “We recognize that the balm for a wounded society is truth and justice.” This is a pointer to the VP’s conviction as an advocate for truth, justice and equity in society.

As chair of the National Economic Council, it was VP Osinbajo who instructed and ensured the formation of over 30 Judicial panels of inquiry around the country to to receive and investigate complaints of police brutality or related extra-judicial killings and ensure there is justice for all victims of police brutality including the setting up of a panel in the FCT. This is the hallmark of leadership.

The VP has always been a voice for the people in government: It was VP Osinbajo whose voice was heard loud and clear condemning the shooting incident at Lekki and standing with the people of Lagos when no one in power was speaking about it. This is in spite of the fact that he as VP had no direct supervisory role over security matters.

It was the VP who ensured that the military authorities are subjected to civilian authority on the matter of the investigation of the Lekki shooting by setting up the Panels including the one in Lagos and ensured the military went to the Panel to answer questions on its activities on the night of the shooting

It was VP Osinbajo who lambasted a gathering of police chiefs publicly Lagos to end police brutality while asserting the rights of the Nigerian people, years before Endsars became a trending subject.

VP Osinbajo is ALWAYS the voice and activist inside govt calling to order every act that is against the Nigerian Constitution and securing Presidential authority to reverse same. EG when the autonomy of universities was assaulted, it was the VP that acted.

The VP has been commended by several national figures from for his leadership qualities and commitment to the service of his fatherland. This speaks volumes about a leader respected and trusted by Nigerians

For decades, the VP has always been and continues to be an advocate for the rule of law and order. As Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State, Osinbajo led several significant reforms which has since become a template for the judiciary nationwide.

There is no basis for comparison between US Mike Pence in relation to his role as Trump’s deputy and Osinbajo’s role as Nigeria’s VP under President Buhari. Trump’s actions many times incited rebellion against the American constitution. President Buhari never did such. Also, VP Osinbajo has always upheld the constitution in the discharge of his responsibilities as Nigeria’s number two citizen.

VP Osinbajo has been vocal about the need for reforms in Nigeria’s justice system for the betterment of society.  This shows that he is always on the side of the law and will never support unconstitutional acts.

The VP is a stickler to justice and the rule of law: in 2019, following baseless allegations, insinuation and falsehoods against his person and office, the VP had stated that he would waive his constitutional immunity to clear his name and “enable the most robust adjudication”. Throughout his career, the VP has consistently proven himself as a man of integrity, honour, strong character and values.

Many Nigerians are so very ignorant.

The VP in America is also the president of the senate, which makes him powerful, while the VP is just a VP who his boss have to deligate some duties to him , so you can't compare the two.

Osinbajo while acting, sack a whole DG DSS, instructed the service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, and the next days, HQ was set up there, they moved, asked IGP to move to Benue and he followed the order untill Baba came back from medical trip, they returned to Abuja.

You dare say Osinbajo doesn't uphold constitution. How dullard can you be? He understands the way..he even rescued Nigeria from being cheated by PA&ID.

Not just absurd but very misleading and shows how malicious our political climate is, the Vice President Osinbajo has been both a revolution and a bless to both Nigeria people and the President himself, he's been at the front of many life changing policies but our online Atikufraud army's will make you believe otherwise but we know what Osinbajo stand for as an individual and a public figure

Only the mischief makers with their cronies are the ones trying to compare the incomparable for their evil motives. The truth is that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is a man who have always proven his patriotism. He was always there when we wanted him

When comparing Osinbajo with Pence is misleading. Pence as the president of Senate in America acted under his constitutional power. Osinbajo also demonstrated his power when he was acting as the president.

When making comparison do it with wisdom without hypocrisy.
The constitutional power assigned to the vp in USA is not same as that of Nigeria. In Nigeria they berely has any power r except when there superior assign any to them
We must also remember that osinbajo has been the most active VP we ever had.
Is actions during the endsars protest and setting up judicial panel proofs that he is valuable

In Nigeria, the VP being osibanjo is not the Senate leader or president but in the USA the vice president is always the Senate president and even if trump is impeach, the Secretary of states takes over as the new president instead of the vice..so both pence and osibanjo are far far different but i will prefer my vice president here in Nigeria!

This is wrong. The Secretary of State is the number 4 in the Line of Succession to the US President.

The Vice President takes over from President, in the event of his/her resignation, death, incapacitation or removal.

The next in line is the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

After that, President pro tempore of the Senate.

It is only after the above 3 people that the Secretary of State comes up. That is, the Secretary of State can only become president if one way or the other all these other Successors are also unavailable to take up the saddle.

Order of Presidential Succession

The U.S. Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 outline the presidential order of succession.

The line of succession of cabinet officers is in the order of their agencies’ creation.

If the President of the United States is incapacitated, dies, resigns, is for any reason unable to hold his/her office, or is removed from office, he/she will be replaced in the following order:

Vice President
Speaker of the House
President Pro Tempore of the Senate
Secretary of State
Secretary of the Treasury
Secretary of Defense
Attorney General
Secretary of the Interior
Secretary of Agriculture
Secretary of Commerce
Secretary of Labor
Secretary of Health and Human Services
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Secretary of Transportation
Secretary of Energy
Secretary of Education
Secretary of Veterans Affairs
Secretary of Homeland Security
