I had my admission since last year July, actually my brother is the one sponsoring me and he is in USA, but he doesn't want me to use his SOA cos of interview. The statement I am using has part of the funding already. All I need right now is how I am going to have alot of mock interviews. I will really appreciate if anyone can help me on this. |

KemLaughs: 1. Fill out your course. The one on your I-20 is a code for your course which the VO understands
2. Great, Fill a new one with your course as before
3. By all means, please do. The job description bit of your DS-160 is an important section. Should I also refill another ds160 because the course on the day ds160 is slightly different from the i20 |

This matter is 50/50, so people have mentioned that they have people in USA and the VO did not ask much question (to my best knowledge AOS is legal especially for F1 holder) I'm of the opinion that adurajoseph brother has done some illegal thing (maybe drop out of school or something) that's why the VO questioned him. Just try and ask your brother every single details about is movement since he got to USA and have some of his details with you Okay so to clearify, he hasnt done anything illegal. He went there for his masters in international business and finished at the normal time, while he was in school he dated, during his opt he got married. Works at Tesla. Has visited Nigeria twice (for his wedding and for a visit). Has legal residency. Also has a business there using the knowledge from his course and pays his tax. I know that for sure. So with that profile, i wonder if there is still a red flag there? 1 Like |

Friedpotato: Visa Approved Undergraduate Funding: Full ride Graduated high school 2013 Second attempt. Abuja Embassy White V.O
Noticed from transcripts posted on here that the white V.O usually comes early and the black V.O starts later, so I decided to go very early even though my appointment was 8:15. I got there by 6:20 but the interview started few minutes to 9.
Me: Good morning V.O: Good morning
Me: Before we start, I'd like to say that I'm very nervous and when I'm nervous, my talking is fast and distorted so if you don't hear what I'm saying just tell me to repeat it. V.O: Don't worry, no reason to be nervous. So why are you going to the United States.
Me: I would be going to continue by undergraduate degree in biology at Edward Waters college in Florida. I started taking classes for the fall semester in Nigeria because of the pandemic and ended with a 4.0 GPA, I have my result with me. V.O: wow, 4.0, that's great. (Then, Takes a look at my I-20), oh I can see you have a full ride, that's great.
V.O: (looks at me and sees that I'm kind of nervous) no need to be nervous.
V.O: so what will this degree do for you? Me: I love biology, it's like my favourite subject in high school but most importantly I plan to pursue a career in biomedical research and biology would be a great foundational course for me. Also, this degree would enable me work at the Centre for excellence in reproductive health initiative where my uncle works.
V.O: Good, so where is this place you say your uncle works? Lagos or Abuja? Me: Benin.
V.O: I intended to issue you your visa, this form contains information on how to pick your passport.
I'm really very happy and I thank everyone on NL. I started this journey in 2018 and I'm glad that God has crowned it with success. I paid MRV four times between November and now. Thankfully all the money I've used since I got admitted from SEVIS to MRV four times to samsung tablet, data and feeding while I was taking online class were external scholarships I got while taking classes this fall. Nothing is too much for God to do at all. . Hy @ friedpotato. I'm new on nairaland and I don't really know how this website works. Please can I ask you few questions. I really need your assistance. If your Brother is Legal, you should mention him in your application Shadomaan7: Hello everyone, this thread has been an inspiration and a source of blessing. I have some questions that’s bothering my mind while trying to fill the DS-160 form and book interview.
My Background: Got applied to LSU for master’s degree, fall 2021 session. GRE score of 320.
1. I have a brother in the USA and he entered as F-1 student but later got a job and he is currently in H-1B status. Should I mention his name on my DS-160 and will this affect my visa chances on the interview day judging that there is change of status on my brother part and that might give a red flag about my own intentions.
The summary is that will having a brother in USA with his status changed from F-1 to H-1B affect my visa chances at the embassy? If yes, can I just not mention I have a family on my DS-160?
2. I got tuition waiver from the school but still have like $22k on my I-20 as the estimated living expenses and books. Can this much $$ have a negative effect on my visa chances even looking at the fact that I got full tuition waiver?
I will be glad if someone can please answer my question and I am also open to people asking me questions about admission, I will reply to those that I am confident of replying to.
Thanks, Shadowman

Do you have family members in the us? What do they do? If they went there for education why have they not returned? What is the assurance you will return if you are grated a visa? If you uncle sponsors you, will he have enough to take care of himself? What is the cost to study your institution? So you uncle should have a substantial amount of money to pay for this and still have enough for himself? I put this questions above from my experience, because it might not be the questions you might expect that they will ask you. Victoriaog: Good Morning everyone. kindly help me review my revised transcript.

His interest and teaching experience in journalism was really something that caught my attention and I am willing to learn under him.
VO: Why this course/ what will it do for you? Me: During my summer internship at orange fm Akure, I happened to work alongside a couple of journalists, Through observing them and their passion to work. My burning desire and Interest for journalism grew more. This degree will make me stand out amongst the rest in professional and academic work as well as give me an edge over others in research and analytics evolving world of media and communication when i return to Nigeria
VO: what’s your study plan Me: I would be required to complete 33 credit hours of course work in 24 months inclusive of 6 credit hours of core requirement course, 3 credit hours of electives courses. A few of my courses include special problems in mass communication, media criticisms, news media publishing, special topics in journalism, images of minorities in the media.
VO: who’s your sponsor Me: My uncle will be sponsoring me
VO: why is your uncle sponsoring you Me: My uncle who was trained by my dad is willing and capable to pay back and he has always been a driving force for me to always advance in life and career.
VO: what does he do Me: He used to work as a geology professor at Wesley University Ondo and adjunct professor at Federal university of Technology Akure before he went into the oil and gas industry.
VO: why USA and not Nigeria Me: what is best about acquiring advance studies in the US is that the qualification i earn is globally recognized and on top of that the education system in the US has been known historically for its academic excellence. I will also like to intern with CNN or Bloomberg where I will gain experiences that can't be gained in Nigeria. Sevis fee must be paid before interview and a coupon must be generated to make this payment. However, interview appointment can be scheduled before payment of sevis.

JaySterling: They have records of everything. And whatever you fill in your application, their database will search for anything matching it with other profiles.
For example, a guy in my area travelled to US in 2018 with visiting visa and he did not return
The address he filled in his application was their family house address
His younger brother recently got denied of an F1 visa. He used the same family house address in his application unknowingly. When they pulled up his profile, his brothers profile came up too. Since they both had same address.
The VO told him that his brother travelled on a visiting VISA which was valid for 6 months and didn’t return. The younger brother was shocked how they knew because he didn’t mention it in his application that he had a relative in USA.
The VO denied his F1 visa based on 2 things -Withholding pertinent information from DS-160 application form. (not revealing he has a relative in USA) -No strong ties (he might abscond like the brother)
If I would advise you, in the place of parent, fill in your uncle or something else
Think about this, what of orphans wey no get parents nko? What would dey fill in that place??
This is to let you know that, that field of parents on DS-160 form is totally irrelevant. And you can put anything there.
Your GRE and GPA is okay, don’t let your bro’s case jeopardize your study dream.
Which uni did you finish from ? Thank you so much for this reply. I haven’t thought along this line and it makes perfect sense. I lowkey also think they might have a way of running some info through their database and your response just give some credence to that. Thanks, I finished from FUTA. 3 Likes |

Just try and ask your brother every single details about is movement since he got to USA and have some of his details with you Okay thanks. Yes, he is legal and he went on an F-1 visa but got a job and they filed for his H-1B visa which is totally a legal route. But he said he told the VO his plan is coming back to Nigeria when he finish his master’s during his F-1 visa interview then so I’m afraid they might want to question my own intention of coming back to. |

KemLaughs: If your Brother is Legal, you should mention him in your application Thanks. |

Sure they'll but just stand your ground If you've a job you can tell them to give you letter for study leave and tell the VO that you'll be coming back to your job after schooling |

The best i feel you can do is let them know he is a legal resident of the US if they ask, is he is married and with a child you can say that and add that his responsiblilities with his family kept him ther and that he is a legal resident. Then try to sell your self as best as possible if they ask you if you have plans on returning. In my case and didn't convince them with my answer because i didnt expect it, so also prepare for other questions like what you sponsor does, how much they earn and how they will not be suffering if they pay for your education and that there is more than sufficient funds. e.t.c.
