Hi everyone. Thanks to all that have been contributing immensely to this thread.

On the issue of advising people to withhold school name and or program, which is now the status quo with transcripts, I think this is wrong. A lot of people applied to WiU and got accepted simply because the barrier to entry is low and tuition is low, that’s not the fault of the applicants. People who know WiU or got the info from transcripts and decided to apply also know Havard and Stanford, and many people applied to it as a safe school and not just because they can’t research other schools. Hence, the argument is weak. I personally researched over 100 schools and attended several info sessions, that doesn’t mean everyone should be subjected to that. I can simply state my program in my transcript and also other schools I applied to. In an Indian Facebook group, they advise you on schools you can apply to and also help you choose the best after several admits, that is what we should be doing here. If you decide to hide your school and program, it’s your choice, but you’re not doing much to help others.

On the issue of Fairheart willing to help people in the state he’s currently in, that’s a very good gesture and it’s not every thing your international office can do to help you, we’ve seen people here house others for weeks. Is it all schools that can provide temporary accommodation?

On the issue of Fairheart charging people for reaching out to him personally, it’s perfectly legitimate. We all have 24 hours, so if you’re asking me to dedicate part of my own to advise you, I can decide to charge you, irrespective of where I got the info from. Would it be a problem if he has a dully registered company, paying salaries and taxes, and providing the same services, even if he got the info from here?. People and companies pay for advice, it’s a very usual business model and anyone should not be subjected to needles attacks because of this, even when he had stated clearly that people should only contact him if it’s personal. Not everyone can go through all this thread, so if I can get someone to give me step by step breadown for a fee, I’d be happy to pay. Plus I’ve never met anyone half as sefless as this guy on this visa journey. He will do mock interviews with you late at night and has been doing so for me and others for almost a year now without asking for a dime. Calling him a criminal is just lame and illogical, you can counter his submissions without attacking his person.

I wish us all the best.

Let me be sincere with you. The date issue in Nigeria is handled by the Nigerians who work with the embassy. I started to suspect this rubbish stuff when they removed date from the right side screen. (Note My another country account still shows it). The Nigeria time manager just fix date as they like. (In my other country account, you will still get july because they follow it serially).

Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria.
This should be true. It was in the New recently that people were paying 200k to secure interview dates.

Lol. What agreement do you have with the US and the Embassy?? Again, it is a privilege not a right; that’s why you can’t petition the decision or whatever they do to your application. All you have to do is to be patient and wait until a date creeps in for you. If it doesn’t work for you this Fall, defer your admission to next Spring. Your aggression and rant can only complicate issues for you.

Maybe you didn’t read on their website that paying the MRV does not automatically guarantee an interview or a Visa.

Lol..there is no aggression here. And by the special grace of God I will never be desperate about the United States. They no reach. You’re talking about patience, I have been patient. I’m not complaining that I did not get a date. I have waited patiently since June. Finally got a date, travelled from a far distance for you to tell me it’s cancelled. Nonsense.
I don’t know about you maybe you have been conditioned to think that you can be treated anyhow just because it’s the American embassy, but definitely not me. I made plans, I have goals to meet, messing it up like that is wrong on every level no matter who is involved.

Hi, your comment on this issue is just so insensitive, it’s not by force to respond if you don’t know what to say. We all know it’s tough to get dates, which is due to the surge of applications the embassy is dealing with. People finally got dates, flew in from different part of Nigeria, then their appointments were canceled less than 24 hours to go, how do you expect them to feel and not come here to complain. This is a paid service. The problem wasn’t the cancellation, as the embassy reserves the right to do that, but timing and the manner with which it was done. Now those applicants are back in the pool with little hope of getting dates after all the hardwork and money spent. You sef reason am.

What’s the solution? Protest, rants and aggression. None of that but patience. So if I’m asking him/her to be patient, it is not insensitive. Coming to NAIRALAND will not solve any of those issues. There was this thread years ago where the consulate do respond to people, they closed it and moved because of aggressive rants like this.

I don't think you're being empathetic here. If you were in their shoes would you feel comfortable someone saying what you're saying.

The rant is necessary especially for people who have had to travel long distances only for their appointments to be cancelled without prior notice. I know you mean no harm but the least you can do for people is to give hope.

I have made myself clear and apologized to the writer. There is really nothing anyone can do about it than to wait patiently for their decisions.

Well, you either accept the condition or you stop fucking with them. There is nothing you can do about it. You can read all the documents including SEVIS receipts, MRV receipt and the I-20. Nothing guarantees you an interview nor a visa. You can only handle it with patience.

There is a popular nairalander who got his visa after the 9th attempt. Another person’s Passport was seized and accused wrongly. They did nothing but patiently wait to resolve it. You appointment was canceled, you are not the first, and will not be the last. All you can do is to patiently wait for their decisions. You did not do anything wrong. They wanna be pampered. Let them seek that at the embassy.. surprisingly when they finally get there they keep mute.

Na as goat keep leg na him dem dey price am. There was a case in the US an Iraqi man was assaulted. He won the case with enough cash and the Americans said in their defence and knowledge, Iraqis get that kind of treatment in Iraq, so why complain. Judge or/ and jury awarded the complainant the justice and damages.

The bottomline is na as your country keep you na him others dey folo treat you. It is sad but continuing!

Please any idea of countries in Europe where I can run a really affordable Ms degree program. My budget is about 6m

Or Universities In the UK I can start with.

If your ultimate intention is to get a good degree that is competitive anywhere in the world, try Germany. But do a proper research about cities in Germany and choose your school in a city where you can easily get by with English Language for your daily activities and jobs.
You also need to find out the current status of getting interview dates at the German embassy.

Exactly, my intention is for it to be resolved which would definitely be. I’m not saying I would fight or anything but my voice would be heard. You don’t eat shit because you were served shit. You stand up for yourself and do something about it. Nigeria is the way it is because you continue eating shit. You need to change your mindset.

What is your UG degree GPA and in what field of engineering you had it? What is your GPA in your MSc and in what field of engineering you had it as well too?

Also, Which area in Engineering are you aspiring for your PhD? If you ‘’wish’’ to provide answers to those questions I believe you will be able to get better responses and heads up on what to do. You have to be specific so as to understand what you actually want.
Thank you !

I always admire the Indians when it comes to knowledge sharing and community, we can get better together if we would be willing to support each other in a similar way. Whoever is concerned about privacy shouldn't have any business on a public forum in my opinion, give as you receive, it's a symbiotic relationship.

Please I need assistance and I will appreciate anyone who can help,I did all necessary things from paying SEVIS paying to paying visa fee and getting all necessary documents,I tried to apply visa on the CGI website after registering and I put my passport information,SEVIS number school and school zipcode, the system keeps telling me my information match the one on record and I can’t recognize the email address of the account…..I don’t know what I can do as I’m unable to book my interview appointment and I’m really worried.I will appreciate any suggestion of what might be wrong or any contact I can call

Hi friend.
Have u ever apply for America visa before. Most likely you have and some one perhaps an agent did that on your behalf. My parents went through this same ordeal while trying to apply for visa so I had to step in. I called the Nigeria embassy very early in the morning ( it is important you call them by 9 as to guarantee they pick up your call) and told them I can’t get access to the email I used to create my parent profile. I requested to change the email. The email was changed and also the password Make sure you dont hang up until you confirm it yourself. The thing about CGI website is that you can only create one profile with your passport number. When u attempt to create another profile with the same passport number you will be rejected.

PERSONAL ADVICE
You are starting the visa application rather too late and time is not on your side. You have three options:
1) Defer your admission to January 2022 and start the visa application early
2) Try your luck and check for date. All date are fully book to 2022. You can apply for emergency date but that is not guaranteed. There are people here that applied a month ago and haven’t gotten any date.
3) This option is the least talk about here. Infact I think is against Naira land policy but if you want to get a date you have to go all the way out. Get a trusted and reliable agent if you want to resume school in August.

I wish you all the best.

Tiimmy:
I have been following quite a number of threads in preparation for my F1 visa interview, and I feel it’s only fair I share my experience so as to help someone else.

My visa interview took place in Lagos on the 22nd of July 2021 10:30am.

Visa Transcript -

VO - Good morning, can I have your documents
Me - I greeted him back and proceeded to hand him my i20 and intl passport.

VO - Why are you going to the US
me - I’m going for my Masters of Business Administration & Management at bla bla bla business school in Boston Massachusetts.

VO - Why did you choose this school.
Me - I chose this school because of its central focus on entrepreneurship as well as an exciting elective titled “Business Strategy in emerging Markets”. For some reason the VO guy nodded.

VO - Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
Me - Yes

VO - Where have you travelled to?
Me - Australia

VO - I see you have a $30k scholarship, how do you intend to cover the rest of your tuition and living expenses?
Me - I have been awarded a student loan by a private company affiliated with the school (I proceeded to hand him a letter from the loan company (prodigy finance) + a sheet with the breakdown of the loan amount, interest rate and loan repayment terms)

VO - How long will it take to pay this money back?
Me - The maximum repayment term is 20years, however because the company uses an APR system, I intend to pay back much sooner to reduce the overall amount I’ll eventually have to pay back. (VO nodded for the second time)

VO - How do you plan to pay this money back?
Me - I have been offered a managerial position in my company (I proceeded to hand over my post-study employment letter from my employer)

VO - (flips through the letter to the salary breakdown section) This amount is your annual salary right?
Me - Yes it is

VO - Are you married?
Me - Yes I am

VO - Do you have any children?
Me - Yes I do. I have a one year old daughter

VO - Why aren’t you travelling with your family?
Me - My wife just started working at a new company less than 6months ago, and she isn’t entitled to an annual leave yet. My daughter is also very young and we have all the help we need in raising our daughter here in Nigeria, in the US we will have no such help. (VO nodded for the third time).

VO - (types fast and said nothing for what felt like 2 long minutes). I’ll be approving your visa, (handed me a white sheet of paper) you can pick your passport up at bla bla bla.

The whole process took less than 5minutes.

My advice to those going for their interview soon -

1. Read through as many visa transcripts on nairaland as you can find. I wasn’t asked any question that I wasn’t prepared for thanks to reading through a lot of transcripts.

2. F1 visa is classified as “non immigrant visa”. You need to show sufficient proof that you have no plans to immigrate permanently to the US. Saying it to the VO is not enough. There were alot of people who said the same “I will be returning to Nigeria after my studies” who got rejected. You need to show proof of ties to Nigeria.

3. Get your financial documents intact. For some reasons most people who had extended family members sponsoring them were denied (eg uncles, aunts, god father etc). You are better off being sponsored by parents or siblings. And they are so much more interested in the careers of your sponsors than just looking through their statement of account details. I didn’t notice anyone being asked for SOA, I certainly wasn’t asked as well (I think they have figured that some people come along with fake SOA).

4. Remain calm. Don’t be ruffled by other peoples interview, no two interviews are exactly the same. I personally tried my hardest not to focus on other people’s interview although for the most part it’s difficult not to hear what’s going on.

Wish you the best. Cheers.

most times you’re told to go back to your country and apply. If you’re not a resident or have valid reason of stay in the new country, it’s not advisable to apply.

Let’s say you’re going to Ghana. Your passport would show your date of entry to Ghana and if the purpose of entry is realized to be the Visa, you’d most likely be sent back.

Good morning everyone!

Please, I'm curious about the visa interview part where proving or demonstrating home ties is an important part to possibly getting an approval. What if your reasons for wanting to study in the US means a career advancement opportunity in another country and not Nigeria, is this going to be an issue when you are asked "what will this degree do for you or what are your plans upon returning?"
Please I'll appreciate an answer on this one.
Thanks.

I applied for FALL before and scheduled my appointment like everyone else and got 28th July as my appointment date

Enrollment deadline for FALL in my school is August 5. But I wouldn’t be able to meet up with this date, as I have something serious holding me down in Lagos on the 10th of August,

When I noticed this, I contacted my institution for an extension or late entry letter and they refused and said I have to defer my admission to spring. This was a really tough decision to make. But I did in the end, and they sent me a new I-20 on the 24th July.

I updated my DS-160 dates and I attended my interview as normal, explained to the VO why I am going for spring and got my visa, to the Glory of God

So my question now is, can I still travel after the 10th of August?
