Me:No
VO: why PhD and not Msc?
Me: I am more interested in core research and my research interest cuts across various areas of Geoscience. Hence, a PhD is a best fit for me as it will give me the needed time to cover these areas effectively.
VO: what is your highest qualification?
Me: I hold a Bsc in Geology from Federal University Gusau.

You can go for your visa interview starting from 120 days before prog ram start date and even up to the week before the date self, if post-dated , you will need adjustment to your i20 to reflect an extended resumption date if your school granted you one. As for getting two different days, since it seems this is your first time, once you don't get a favourable date, request for emergency appointment. Prepare for that day, why should you have the mind of possible delay, though it happens, but better to have a positive mind. Some have interviewed 10 days, 27 days after previous denial though, just that such chance is really slim. All the best

Visa Approval transcript
Abuja Embassy
October 26th 2021. 8:30 am
PhD Civil Engineering (Fully Funded) Spring 2022
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Previously denied a B1 and F1 visa in 2018
Interviewed by a white American man

Me: Good Morning

VO: Can I have your I-20 and passport, please?

Me: (Hands over required documents)

VO: Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?

Me: Yes

VO: Where and for what purpose?

Me: I was in Saudi Arabia for my Master's Program.

VO: How long were you there, and can I see your masters certificate

Me: I was there from 2018 till June 2021. I showed him my Certificate, and he checked the graduation date to confirm the date I mentioned.

VO: Are you working presently?

Me: No, I have been working on my master's thesis research papers since I got back to Nigeria in June. I have also been learning new software I will need for my doctorate study.

VO: (Nods head in unison)Why are you going for a PhD?

Me: I worked on cementitious materials for my master's thesis. I want to gain an extensive and in-depth knowledge of the use of supplementary cementitious materials in concrete. Hence the reason for advancing further for a PhD.

VO: What do you plan to do after your study?

Me: After my PhD, I plan to advance further as a teacher and a researcher. So I will be coming back to Nigeria to work as a full-time lecturer at my alma mater, the University of Lagos, and research discovering new local cementitious materials to be used in concrete production.

VO: Do you have a family member in the US?

Me: Yes, my mom's younger brother.

VO: Where in the US does he stay?

Me: Providence, Rhodes Island.

VO: Everything checks out. I will be approving your VISA.

Summary: He mostly asked questions from what I filled in my DS-160 form to confirm if everything correlates. And I believe the question about the location of my mom's brother in the US was from my past B1 visa denial transcript.

Thanks to everyone that shared their transcripts. It helped. God bless you.

My sister will be applying for her PHD program, she is married with 3 kids, In the course of her application, she was asked if she will be coming to US with her spouse and children. Now

1. Is it advisable to include her family in the application now or just wait till the admission is offer?

2. Assuming she eventually get the admission with funding, what are the likely questions the VO will ask her and her family?

3. She already spoke with a faculty in her university and the faculty is ready to grant her full scholarship.

4. Her spouse is currently working with a private film.

Please what are the likely scenario that can play out since the wife is the main applicant in this case.

Thank you.

Is your pregnancy showing?
Do you think it will show by the time you are travelling?
But how do you intend to do it while schooling if you are not coming with any one to the USA.

Takes around 14 months. The easiest is to go back home and apply at the consulate.

You need not worry about your pregnancy showing. Had a friend who was approved with 8months pregnancy during COVID. The most important thing is you being able to defend that you have explored all the support options for you to navigate the graduate school (check the delivery system in your intended state, creches/daycare, during your education. Have you checked with your school to know about the delivery options, and pre-natal care services etc. If you intend going with your husband, thats fine, present him as he will be coming to support you while you study. You may want to have extra funds to cater for yourself too.

what kind of questions is this?? What portals do people apply from? Is it jamb? Cant you research on the schools you would want to study in respect to your course of choice? Have you tried reading from page one till now? Or old threads You people never want to start yourself, you will just dump what you think here and expect someone to pick it up for you and tell you what to do from A to Z.
