Mkkkk:
F1/F2 visa denied
Embassy Location- Abuja
COA- 31k
No Funding
Sponsor- Mum and husband

I’m married and applied with my 2 years old daughter(F2) for MsED in Educational administration as I have been working as a school administrator since I graduated in 2014 in my family owned school and my mum is retiring shortly and I will be fully in charge of the school hence the reason for my masters degree as my first degree is BSc Economics.
My daughter was crying so I was given priority and asked to leave the queue and sent straight to the Black female VO.

Interview
Black young female VO
VO: Goodmorning
Me: Hi, Goodmorning
VO: Tell me about your plans
Baby was uneasy and restless so I was trying to pacify her by shaking her on my shoulder while responding.
Me: I’m going to graduate school for my masters in Educational administration.
VO: What is the duration of your programme?
Me: 24months
VO: Continues typing then asked why this course.
Me: Im working as a school administrator in my family owned school so this will help me acquire necessary skills and knowledge required to effectively manage and administer a school as I will be taking over management of the school once Mum retires in a few years.
VO: What did you study in your first degree?
Me: Economics
VO: who is sponsoring you?
Me: My Mum will cover my tuition while my husband will cover I and my daughter’s living expenses.
VO: What do they do?
Me: My Mum is the Proprietress of the school I currently work while my husband is an auto dealer, he is into import and sales of cars here in Nigeria.
VO: Where will you be staying for the duration of your programme?
Me: Meadows Estate at bleep- it’s a school recognized off campus.
VO: Have you made arrangements for your daughter’s care?
Me: Yes, she will be cared for at child center daycare while I attend lectures.
VO: What’s the population of the school you work?
Me: Student population of roughly 959, staff strength of 36 academic and 22 non academic staffs.
VO: Is this your only child.
Me: Yes
VO: Your husbands business what year did he start?
Me: 2015
VO continues typing for awhile then picks the blue slip and handed over to me with my passport and i20
Me: Is there anything you would have needed more clarification on as you saw I was a bit distracted and unsettled with my baby crying and me trying to pacify her and answering you in between.
VO responds it’s all in the blue slip, you can reapply at a later date.

Gurus in the house, please I need advice as to what went wrong. I already deferred my admission to Fall semester and would be reapplying. I would appreciate suggestions on how to improve my application next time.
My advice here is that you should make sure that your sponsors both bank statements is times 3 of your cost of attendance. And next time indicate a good capacity of the school like 126 academic staff & 53 non workers.

Hi Tim,
Good day and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Love your in-depth and concise response to questions.

I have one which I'd like clarifications on please.

Several visa interview transcripts and responses from people here seem to give the impression that one might get unfavorable visa response if you have relatives in the US. How true is that please?

My sponsor happens to be my uncle who has been resident in the US for decades. This in addition to several other cousins, uncles and aunts residing there. Will this be a problem?

Gladly appreciate your response. Thanks.

Hi Emeka,

Truth is, there is no hard or fast rule to this. There are people who've been given visas with sponsors resident in the US and there are others who've been denied. In my honest opinion, beyond your sponsor (which you can't change), there are other factors that can improve your chances of getting your visa. First, if you have a graduate assistantship from your school that covers a significant part of your cost of attendance, it removes the focus from your sponsor to a large effect. Also, having strong ties to Nigeria such as a good and/or well-paying job or working in a well known company, as well as having a very solid plan of how/what the degree obtained will do for you upon returning to Nigeria, will improve your chances.

Even if you can't address all factors above, try and get an assistantship from your school and be able to clearly explain what the degree will do for you...and you may be shocked that you may not even be asked for your statement of account or about any of your relatives. All in all, do your part and always hold out for the best outcome.

Compliment of the season to everyone.

Please I need the following information for programmes in MBA, social sciences or humanities/arts if it’s possible:
1. A school that offers Masters admission without necessarily transcript evaluation from WES and co
2. Schools that is currently on for Masters admission/application
3. Schools that have application waiver(with ongoing application)

Please I am in urgent need of helpful information for my stage of the process.

I have PhD admission with a graduate teaching assistantship position which provides full tuition fees waiver and a monthly stipend of 1995 USD.

I am supposed to have access to tetfund to cover my program in the US, but I am not going with tetfund for two major reasons. 1. For my intended resumption date (January 2022), tetfund application is too late and will only necessitate a deferment which I don't wish to do.
2. Being that I have the full tuition waiver and the stated amount in monthly stipends, I feel it amounts to greed for me to still apply for tetfund, so that EFCC or ICPC will not be looking for someone late.
does the above reasoning hold?

Now it's a family of four (one F1, three F2)

With the tuition waiver and stipends, will the embassy still expect me to show proof of fund and to what range of amount please?

Finally, since I got my i20 on 27th, i have not been able to complete the visa application form. The site appears to be rejecting information.

Can anyone please help me with some clues.

I will be grateful.
Hi, congratulations on your offer.
As regards your dependants, the amount varies, depending on the school. You will need to check the school's website to confirm.

Also, if the excess of the funding do not cover the amount for dependant you will still need to show proof of funding that covers them.

BTW, how did you get the I20, is their name reflected in it? However means you are able to cover them to get your I20 should suffice at the embassy too.

Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Hello bro congrats on your admission/Funding.
If the Funding doesn't cover for your dependents, apply for the TETFUND schoolarship to cater for them, it's not greed because you need it as you'll have to show proof of funds for them, tell the school to send you an updated I-20 reflecting your dependents and it's cost, you then use the TETFUND money to offset the bills, contact your grad cord to see if the school can leave your funding after deferment because I'll advice you defair to Fall'22 to afford you ample time to put everything in place both the TETFUND schoolarship, New I-20 and visa applications, that's my opinion, wish you the best

I had to show proof of 26,360 USD for the I-20, but the fund in the account will be used by 2nd week of January, or can I just print a new statement before the disbursement?

The I-20 lists the dependents.

Please does anyone know if any not fully vaccinated person was able to fly from Nigeria this week? There is supposed to be an exemption for F1 visa holders from certain countries which includes Nigeria.

Thank you
