Nigeria First Senate existed between 1954 to 1964 (First Republic). The Second Republic came into existence in 1979 and lasted till 1983 (Second Senate). Third Republic never had a democratically elected civilian president, despite the fact, there was presidential election on June12,1993.

General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida who was the then Head of State cancelled the presidential election.

In the present Fourth Republic, election had been conducted and different persons had been elected in to the House of Senate in:
√ 1999 (4th Senate)
√ 2003 (5th Senate)
√ 2007 (6th Senate)
√ 2011 (7th Senate)
√ 2015 (8th Senate) and present
√ 2019 (9th Senate).
