SERAP should keep their mouths shut. They talk too much. They know nothing about good governance. If borrowing is what's going to make our country move forward then our President must borrow. I'm sure the president Buhari led administration is already working on modalities to pay back these loans. Enough of the wailing already....

You are young today but will be old tomorrow, if you don't show wisdom in your young age would you show wisdom when you are old?

Why is this government so bent on borrowing?

No responsible government will borrow to fund developmental projects talk less of borrowing to fund budget..

This is just to justify how clueless they are. Even if they eventually borrow the fund they will end up looting it.

Most of these accounts are having proceeds of frauds.
Also, the banks having these accounts have been profiting from the funds therein over the years, using the funds for business and making huge profits for themselves.

The step being taken by the govt is in order and is in line with other democracies - US, UK, Australia, etc.

If the account are proceeds of fraud then why is the govt not going for forfeiture instead of borrow..Abi are you saying govt wants to borrow from fraudsters and then pay them back the proceed of their fraud? . Think am well

It's plain to see by the frantic scramble for pennies by the government that the national purse has been emptied.

Easterner, Westerner, Southerner, Northerner, we will all jointly reap what we have sowed and allowed to fester.

2023 is still far away.. Expect stupid taxes, levies, and increase in charges for government owned enterprises in the meantime.

Hopefully COVID doesn't ever get as serious down here as it is in some other parts of the world, because, you and I know, we can't handle it.

Our country is indeed on autopilot.
Assalam alaikum.

The govt doesn't have proof they are proceeds of frauds. So, govt can't seize the funds permanently for that reason. However, the supposed owners understand they won't be able to claim the money legally.

Lastly, why don't you answer the questions of what has been happening to those funds since all these years?

How do they determine if account is dormant? If I deposit my money and have plan to use it in 10 to 15 years time by my arrangement. Then the useless government of Mr Bihari will go and tamper with it considering it to be dormant right!

You can't borrow someone's money without the persons permission , doing this is outright armed robbery...Dormant account is a faux there is nothing like that ..No account can be said to be abandoned when all accounts have Next of Kin ...why are banks not informing next of kins as the law suggest

Let’s even know if the interest rate will be attractive. Some might accept. Lol

The bank owners have been illegally using those funds for their private business and that's why they always refuse to inform next of kin ..we have known of this fraud for years , but why does the govt now want to legitimize it?

How did u determine that d monies in "Most of these accounts are proceeds of frauds"? What is d legal procedure for accessing funds such funds? If banks are making huge profits from dormant funds, it's with d consent of d account holders. If d govt wants to enjoy such, it should open it's own bank

An account that's dormant for 6 years is suggestive of the death of the owner or holding a slush fund.

Either way, the govt is more entitled to it than the banks who are using it to make personal gains. If the govt use such funds to build infrastructures and boost the economy, it's for our common good.

So you believe taking money from it citizens while they still have their fat salaries intact wil move this country forward?
If they really want the best for this country not their pockets they should cut their huge salaries and stop some unnecessary allowances

When u open an account with a bank, do u give d bank consent to use ur monies for business or not? Or haven't opened a bank account before?

Every account has Next of Kin there , if an account is dormant for 6 years the right thing to do is try to get in touch with the owner and if the owner can't be reached get in touch with the next of kin and if the next of kin can't also be reached , start the procedure for forfeiting such funds to the state as guided by our laws ...

people like u are d problems of this generation. You have no brain to simply reason that government should find other way to solve the country's problem than stealing from individual that government provides no benefit for. Being able to think of d way to tackle people's problem is what is called leadership. You dummy still support d failed government that can't give palliatives during lockdown to steal from dormant accounts without owner's consent. U are a disgrace .
