Most of the rail transport we have in Nigeria were built by the federal government. Why can't states build their own rail tracks and introduce train for intra state transport so as to decongest the roads, this will help the growing numbers of commuter's and it will also reduce the numbers of accident in our road, apart from it's affordability. They should think along this line to help commuter's. |

Because it is probably in the exclusive list like power generation, security and others. Also most states can't afford to build rail. It is very expensive to build. |

coputa:because they cannot afford it. Lagos has been on it for more than 12 years. No completion in sight. Amaechi spent 40 billion on mono rail and was abandoned. Most of the FAAC allocation are spent on recurrent expenditures, security votes and other nonsense. The so called Niger Delta states except for akwa ibom only share their money and use it to drink ogogoro. 2 Likes |

coputa:Lol, maybe delta and akwa ibom but mismanagement won't even allow it. Only lagos truly has finance for rail but mismanagement is also a big problem there. |

This is one transportation sector which state government have to ventured into, I think some state can finance light rail project but misappropriation & corruption will not let them see road. If a state government can build airport of international standard, I also think they can build a light rail project. |

ednut1:you are correct, there's no new innovation in any of the Niger delta states,it is looting all the way, it's pathetic |

samwash:yes, some state government waste billions building substandard and non functional airport, they should think out of the box and venture into rail transportation,it has a lot of advantages. |

coputa:because they cannot afford it. You don't know how poor states are. Many cannot comfortably spend up to 10 billion in a year on infrastructure. |

We already seen akwa ibom taken good care of different fleet of planes and running is own airline, i don't think states building trains station should be a problem most especially states in the niger delta. |

One a second thought, most of our cities are already develop with infrastructure, for a railway line to connect different locations with the urban & sub- urban areas, some houses, churches, mosque & even government installations has to go down. The amount that will go for compensation will be alarming, before even drawing a plan for railway stations & rail track. Even has that some state government can still undertake this task. Nothing bad if two or more state within a region can sign an MOU for inter state transit. This is just my take. |
