Rossintii: I thought you knew people in power, why don't you discuss the issue with them? what will the opinion of a common Nigeria do in solving the issue? 1 Like |

privaldo: Public opinion drives development in Nigeria more than you think. A lot of the state governors are building good infrastructure now because their people simply will not tolerate a non-performing governor. I think the leaders get away with building roads without covered drains and sidewalks because the PEOPLE do not demand it or see it as essential. Most Nigerians don't even realise there's something wrong with such a way of building roads. For them, simply tarring the roads and building an open gutter on each side is perfect. They don't know any better. |

Rossintii: I disagree with the bolded, if there's one country in the world that tolerates bad leadership a lot it is Nigeria. Most of the leaders don't give a damn about what goes on in the country because they know the people can't do them anything. On the issue of building roads with open gutters, I think at Nigeria's level it is the best because it can be easily maintained by the people when it gets bad even though it's disgusting. We all know the situation in this country, a governor may build a closed gutter system and when he leaves office the new governor probably of another political party will not maintain it because it wasn't his project. So, the work will be left for the citizens to do by themselves. |

privaldo: I disagree with everything you've said here, as it is filled with gross negative generalisation, pessimism, and prejudice. You cannot as a leader say "I am going to build substandard infrastructure because I 'know' the next administration will not maintain it if I build it properly". It is not your job to preempt negative outcomes without evidence. |

Rossintii: No, this isn't generalisation but the Nigerian reality. You may deny it but this isn't the Western world that makes laws that compel leaders to complete such projects. It played out in Rivers State, when Wike came in he dumped the monorail and several other projects by Amaechi till now. Hope Uzodinma is also doing it in Imo, so there is no need to deny the reality. We need to accept the reality of how play out on the African continent. |

Reason we have alot of open gutters in Nigeria is to be able to drag people carried away by flood water since it happens alot in Nigeria |
