How can you pay N1. 6bil for software that is free and open source? The corruption is now on the next level.

TIL: Nigeria's 2021 budget has 1.6 billion Naira for "Purchase of OSINT Software" (about 3.5 million Euro).

My questions:
1. Most of the software is free so what are you going to buy?
2. If this includes other things (like salaries or something), where can I apply?

We will not realize what the APC gov is doing to this country unless a transparent government takes over Aso Rock. However, there is no particular software called OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) software. Rather, OSINT refers to a range of tools used to analyze data directly from open source platforms like the social media. It will cost some good money but 'billion' is definitely outrageous.

Buhari is the Sai Baba of corruption.
It's a shame he won't be exposed until he leaves office in 2023.

There's the premium version, also quite expensive but nowhere near the quoted amount in this budget. $40-$50k will solve the problem

Arrrrrrrh

They should allow them, data transparency anybody can hack it. Anything called security in Nigeria is faulty, they can't protect their citizens, it's data they would protect?

Misplaced priority !
You see how block headed this APC government is? grin As in ' Free' and they want to buy it. Too much money wasted in the wrong direction.

I pity for this generation of Nigerians

How is osint free software.

Software for gathering information in public sources site ...how is this software free?

The funniest thing is most Nigerians do not understand Osint, because a Twitter account created to incite public opinion said it is free, they all believe it is free.

OSINT IS NEVER FREE, OSINT USES AI TO GATHER DATA FROM PUBLIC AVAILABLE SOURCES.

People that analyze data from social media and other public available sources understand that some tools for gathering information are not free, you have to pay for licensing especially when you want to install the software in lot of computers

Okay, while I am a bit suspicious about the whole budget for OSINT...it isn't true to say that OSINT is 'free'

First, there are several types of OSINT software, and some come in free, while some come with payment.

I suspect the government is going for the variant where you have to pay something for it.

HERE is the article on types and pricing of OSINT software

As you can see if you clicked the article...some OSINT come in free, some come in paid variants.

Of course, the government won't be using the free stuff...which everyone and his mother can use.
