As seen on a Facebook group. A young man Jethro Akila narrated how he was assaulted and extorted by some police officers in Jos.

According to the young man, He said,

" I was kidnapped by the Nigerian Police officers on the 20th of January, 2021 from a Keke after Rockfield. On my way to Maintain Adikko in Rayfield at 4pm.

Not up to a minute after the Keke rider stopped to pick a passenger near a probably illegal checkpoint. These men in uniform recklessly stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road and before we knew what was going on, the dragged me out of the Keke accompanied by series of slaps and blows aimed directly at my head.

They continued in that fashion whilst loading me into their navy blue Ford pickup truck with registration number "02E69PL". I noticed 'State Command's and 'Patrol 02' boldly printed on their vehicle's side.

These men kept on physically assaulting me with assorted melee weapons (sticks) while driving to a secluded area. That road that link to the Rayfield Golf Club from Elims. Once there, one of the officers was going through my pockets and another was ransacking my bag.

All this time, I was being held against my will and the only reason they gave was that 'they overhead me calling them thieves' (which I didn't). They found 34,500 Naira on me, they confiscated #30k and left me with 4,500.

My phone wasn't spared from the brutality either, as one of the blows aimed at my legs hit the phone. Probably damaging it beyond repair.

Luckily, the Keke rider followed the truck as they whisked me away and saw when they left me at the secluded spot. He gave me a ride to where I got my wounds cleaned and subsequently to Be Division in Bukuru to lodge a formal complaint. 

The officers there weren't of any help and even threatened to lick me up for having that amount of cash on me( apparently, I'm too young to have #34k). I intend to take this case seriously and make sure I get justice because I still saw the perpetrators manning another checkpoint at the same area today. This should never happen to anyone else, I'm still in severe pains.

This happens to an average young Nigerians everyday. Let's get justice and put the perpetrators to book.
