Falana talks too much, nothing bad in a democratic system, President summoning Governors to dialogue on crisis, Prime minister summons Mayor's and MP, even her Royal Majesty summons Prime minister

.

Get it right
The president has no right to summon a governor any where in Nigerian constitution period.

He can only invite and the governors can decide to either honor it or not

Do you want to mention governor where there were two governors referred in the article. Another poster has also made reference of governors.
Specific reference was made to Makinde in the article.

And him begging for extra unit of mobile police force in Oyo state.
Re: Herdsmen: You Have No Business Going To Beg Buhari, Falana Slams Oyo And Ondo by Reference(m): 9:02am On Jan 30, 2021
Iamgrey5:
Falana clearly made reference to Makinde who was pleading for a third unit of mobile police force in Oyo state because of its size and population.

Somehow the Editor of the newspaper thought it will be a clever thing to make "his reference" with regards to the police the central theme of the article to promote reaction.

So what is the President's business with a mobile police squadron?
Are you serious at all or is this country some sort of monarchy run by a king.
What Falana is saying in a nutshell that issues bordering on civil insecurity are administered at the grassroots which is ideal.
That is how serious nations are run.
A squabble in Bornu, a house fire in Lagos, a cat stuck up a tree in Uyo should not be on the President's plate, simple.
If there are communal clashes between Urhobos and Itshekiris or between Ijaws and Ikwerres will it be so...
Kaduna state has been number one in non combative civil strife and loss of lives since the inception of this administration. How many times has El-Rufai 'visited', 'been summoned' or whatever to Aso Rock on account of the carnage in his state.

English

1 : to issue a call to convene : convoke. 2 : to command by service of a summons to appear in court. 3 : to call upon for specified action. 4 : to bid to come : send for summon a physician. 5 : to call forth : evoke —often used with up.

Security Council of Nigeria, Governors are members, President is the head, he can summon members

National Economic Council, Governors are members Vice President is the head, he can summon a meeting

Kayode Oyero

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has lambasted Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, for visiting the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in a bid to find lasting solution to the herdsmen crisis rocking the two South-West states.

Falana spoke on a PUNCH Online interview programme, The Roundtable on Friday.

Above is the first paragraph of the article I read. I really do not konw which article you read.

I do not give a ratass about specifics Oyo State or Ondo State governor was begging. The Falana did not slam them for begging while sitting in Ibadan and Akure. Falana castigated the two governors for going to Abuja, the wrong place indeed, to beg for what they had.

I've learned a lot of things from this legal luminary falana, many Nigerians don't know their rights that is why they are easily trampled upon. The president seems to oversee everything in this country, but we say we practice presidential system of government not unitary. The United States the government of whom we mirror has the powers of the president curtailed by the congress and senate, even the state legislature has control over the activities of their state. But here in Nigeria, to even improve the security architecture in protecting the lives and properties in the face of rampant securities in the srate, the governors will still have to go and lick the foot of the president. It just speaks to the fact that Africans like to be subservient to whoever they consider as superior and opressive to whoever they deem as below them.

in a federal system, the president has no right nor power to "summon" any Governor in the country, the Governors are not under the president.

Nigeria President seems to be the most power "democratic" President in the world. (correct me, if I'm wrong) Nothing can be achieved by anyone, including State Governors, without licking the ass of the president.
let it be known that you are hereby corrected. Look at the ESN, did they lick the president's ass before kicking fulani herdsmen out of Ebonyi and Imo? Did Sunny Igboho lick Buhari's ass? Is Falz father or Falz himself licking anybodies ass? You have to get your facts right because security is a collective responsibility of all leaders in Nigeria because I don't see these so called "ass lickers" running to Abuja before deciding what to collect as tax in their respective states.

Are u saying that as governors, they had absolutely no idea on how to resolve issues on herdsmen brutality? Are they accountable to d president? What advise did they now receive from d president? When fayose ridded ekiti of d same herdsmen, was it from buhari that he got advise?

They didn't go there to beg him for the herdsmen issues, they went to vie for their own positions. These are politicians. If not, nobody should tell you how best to protect your family!

Based on what u saying, we are in deep shit. because if governors can't handle their state affairs without running to buhari for advise, then it shows that they aren't fit to be governors. Fayose was a governor. Makinde and akeredolu are governors. Isn't it d same office of governor?

Dumb heads are just too numerous on this platform. One be saying that falana talks too much that the president can summon the gvnrs. Prior to the action they took why didn’t the president invite them. While people were being killed, rapped and kidnapped why didn’t the president invite the governors for a lasting solution to the Fulani killing spree and the public uproar? TY Danjuma has said it all, if we continue waiting for the security agencies in Nigeria to protect us we will one day be wiped out.

Prime minister e.g Boris Johnson dont summon MPs and Mayors as they are only answerable to their constituents.. He can only summon his cabinet members(although majority are MPs anyway). If there is any issue to be discussed it is brought to the floor of the parliament in what is called the PMQ. The Queen doesnt even need to summon the PM,there is a channel for daily briefing from the PM to the Queen.
