Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Jerry Alagboso has expressed surprise on the level of achievements recorded by the Ombudsman, Barr. Willie Amadi as the Federal Commissioner representing Imo state in the Public Complaints Commission Nigeria, describing him as the best.

Hon. Alagboso gave this commendation during a one day working visit to the Public Complaints Commission’s office in Owerri, the capital of Imo state Monday with his entourage.

According to him, Barr Amadi should document and make public his achievements within the short period he assumed office as Federal Commissioner having gone beyond expectations, observing that if his predecessors had done half of what he did, PCC in Imo State would have been widely known and consequently availed her services to numerous citizens suffering from administrative injustices and official harassments.

“To be sincere, I must tell you that the face of the Commission in Imo state has changed for better, the office aesthetics has been elevated to a garden of tranquility which is very condusive for work and also endeangers petitioner’s confidence in the Commission. Infact Willie Amadi reflects his Clean and Green culture by way of assessment. As a Federal Commissioner, he is resourceful, responsive and proactive and as usual handles every position at his disposal with dedication, commitment and delivery”. He has the midas touch he maintained.

The third time member representing Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency at the red chambers therefore assured of the House of Representatives determination to protect worker’s welfare in the areas of promotion and regularization of staff grade levels, describing the comportment and dedication of staff in Imo state as commendable and confirmation of leadership role by the Federal Commissioner.

He said, “I will make a strong case to the Rt. Hon. Speaker for a review of budgetary funding for the Public Complaints Commission. “Amadi does not understand anything other than visible development. If he could achieve this feat under a tight financial condition bedevilling his Commission, how much more when there is an improved budget. The Public Complaints Commission offices in Rivers and Imo States are the best not because of their strategic locations but because of the caliber of leadership at the helm of affairs”

Hon. Alagboso further promised to draw the attention of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and members of his committee to the complaints of the office with a view to finding a lasting solution, while advising the staff to remain committed and sustain the tempo.

Hear him, “As part of my working visit, I will go back to the National Assembly (House of Representatives) to ensure that the attention of Mr. Speaker is drawn to your financial plight having justified our expectations and demonstrated high level of commitment in the discharge of your duties”. He submitted.

In his remarks the Ombudsman, Barr. Willie Amadi expressed joy and happiness on the eulogies showered on him and his team by Hon. Alagboso, assuring that as a tradition they will continue to keep the flag flying for the good of the nation.

Barr Amadi, a three times award winner and pioneer General Manager of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission and a Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Sanitation & Transport recalled that the Commission had received over one thousand petitions from the public since May 2018 when he assumed office out of which over eight hundred cases had been fully and amicably resolved to the satisfaction of petitioners.

He said that had the cases resolved were allowed to go to court, it would have foisted and saddled the judiciary with unnecessary and excessive workload with the attendant bad blood among the litigating parties.

He said, “In making sure we achieved the quick successes, we designed a template of investigation. We broke into ten investigating teams ranging from Higher institutions, MDA’s with emphasis on worker’s promotion, pensions, gratuity as well as vindictive disciplinary procedures. We also have teams for public and private companies doing business in the country including companies deemed to have been registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission otherwise known as Special Purpose Vehicles [SPV] amongst others. We deliberately broke the bureaucratic barriers in the civil service of exchange of letter writing in order to access instant information, resolution and justice by visiting the locus inquo for audience and on the spot investigation activities by our teamof Investigators. This mode of breaking bureaucratic red tapes of avoiding the conventional letter writing enabled us to resolve cases easily while saving time and money”

The Ombudsman further said that the only way the commission may generate internal revenue was through donor agencies since PCC under the enabling Act and his charge does not request or ever discuss money with any petitioner who according to him were mostly made up of the less privileged, abused and vulnerable complainants in the society.

He therefore appealed to Hon. Alagboso and members of the National Assembly to assist in improving the welfare package of the staff, adding that most of their staff were overdue for promotion are yet to be appropriately placed.

Continuing, Barr Amadi also regretted lack of provision of official car and utility vehicles as part of the problems limiting the conduct of investigation of petitions brought before the Commission appealing to National Assembly to come to their aid. He thanked the Chairman for finding time to visit the commission.
