Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 1:43pm On May 06, 2015
Haryobame. There is the widespread belief that CHI offers the best DOCs in the country. However, the issue farmers have with them (especially, the small time farmers) is that you have to make bookings 2 - 3 months ahead. Otherwise, you are forced to go through some agents, who apart from charging you between #10 to #30 extra on each DOC, may give you DOCs from other hatcheries packaged in CHI cartons. ZARTECH presents an alternative in that their DOCs are relatively cheaper & you can take delivery within 2 weeks of making a booking. (LIMITED EXPERIENCE WITH THE 2, pls)

Poultry business is 30 percent theory 70 per cent practical.This is the reason why the business is being operated by every tom dick and harry.
Yes 3 days you can learn the basic but once you start little you apply what you learn .Gradually you master everything about the business.
Your passion for the business is what will keep you going not the money.Remember no pain no gain.I hope you will understand.
Goodluck

sukkotfarm. I'm yet to do black layers in a significant number. However, I have twice had them amidst my Isa Brown flocks. The first were 15 in number. The second; 40 pieces. What I noticed were that the black birds had greater resistance to diseases than their brown counterparts. However, it took them longer to attain their peak production. In the meantime, how much is Zartech DOC now? Success.

Zartech DOC current prices

Black = N110
Brown = N130

bigiyaro. Less than 10% mortality for a first-timer raising fragile Broilers is quite commendable. Thumbs Up. Mercylicious. You are quite correct. However, Globaby isn't the only one who has been "absent" from this forum. jamp; FarmTech; Doziefarms; Obnelly; fnk & others are also missing in action. I'll join you in congratulating (in arrears or advance) Globaby on safe delivery.

noblefarm. Please, look for an experienced person around you to lead you through. You may also wish to go through this thread from page 1 till now; you'll pick up some important tips. bosaty2003. Asbestos is better because it is a poor conductor of heat. You may use zinc/roofing sheets. However, plant trees around to serve as coolant.

Wow...Bigiyaro welldone. I am currently experimenting with 51 broilers and they are 12 weeks today and i dnt like the price the market women are offering. One of them priced N1300 per very big birds not less then 2.5kg each and i almost asked her to vanish from my farm and the other one said my birds were too clean and that her "spirit' does not angre with them.Please house, has anyone heard that kind of afternoon confession before? I have been doing layers and this is my first attempt at broilers. i bought only one box and they added on extra making 51 and they all survived and i feed them well.Making sure the environment is clean and as such have clean birds is that a sin?

In addition, what price did you sell your mature birds Bigiyaro or anyone else? my farm is in benin.

Thank you for keeping the forum alive.
