Before coming here to advertise myself on feed formulation i have been into poultry farming since 2007 while still in secondary school and i don't think there is anything bad in advising people to take bio-security measures seriously am using my project as a reference point and when it comes to feed i believe am an expert in that area although am still learning I have a software for poultry feed formulation the software has various conventional and non-conventional feedstuffs parameters so all i have to do is to ask my prospective customers the available feedstuffs in their area and my software will take care of the rest, i will give out the percentage of each ingredients to be mixed, i will also give out the ME (Kcal/Kg) content, the crude protein content, the crude fibre content e.t.c and to further butress my work i will take the compounded feed to the laboratory for proximate analysis. I believe if you know how to compound yourself you can turn non-conventional feedstuffs like burukutu waste, maize offal, rice offal, palm kernel cake, wheat offal e.t.c and some conventional feedstuffs like maize, soybean meal or soy bean full fat, e.t.c into Animal feed and it will meet the nutrients requirement of the birds at a low cost. Imagine raising a 2.7Kg broiler bird for just 900 to 1100 naira and selling your birds out for 1500 to 2000 or more i know some people will claim it is not possible to raise a broiler at that price but expertise in poultry will tell you it is possible. Thanks for the advice there is no end to learning am still learning too, because where you think is your peak of knowing or knowledge is another man's starting point.

Do they have other symptoms? If not, don't bother because that kind feces is called cecal poop. It comes out from time to time.

Good morning great farmers. We have about 360 layer birds in our farm already laying (for d past 5month). We maintain their deworming, Lasota and multivitamin cycles. We get 9, 10 and 10+ crates in a day. Though we still noticed up to 4-5 soft eggs. On their recent Lasota cycle, we gave them 1000 dose, followed by our usual multivitamin (egg formula). we notice egg drop now 4, 4+ crates. their poo is okay and environment okay. Pls will their laying go back to what they use to lay due to d lasota overdose? is their anything I need to give them? Nagode

1000 dose lasota for 360 birds? That's very risky and that's probably the cause of your problem.

Having read from page one to d last...I can conclude that this thread is resourceful.... from what i deduced.. poultry farming is a lucrative venture & is also a high risk venture...capital intensive,it involves many factors to overcome to succeed.ranging from inadequate finance,high cost of feeds, quality feeds & water,diseases control & prevention,breeds & genetics of bird,expertise, knowledge,passion, dedication,training,weather,security, adequate housing,high cost of poultry equipments,high cost of feeds(gulp:60-70% of operating cost), unavailablity of quality feeds/raw materials,high cost of drugs & quality vaccines, environmental factors: pollution,noise, lighting,ventilation.
Untrained personnel
If one of those factors is missing,it spelt failure for d investors.
The business required a lot of balancing act.some factors is even beyond farmers control.
So I advice anyone who want to go into poultry for egg or meat production to get d required trainings via seminars, reading,internet learning & visit farm to get practical knowledge.
Don't be a novice & want to employ another novice to manage your poultry farm.that will be disaster.
I have seen people rush to build structure,pens when they don't know how to rear birds,where to get doc from,how much they will spend on feeds,don't know where to get drugs or vet,no market survey..some don't know how much a crate of egg cost.
Learn & teach your staff.
Have passion for poultry farming.
Some are not farmers but absentee investors....the profit is d motivating force not d passion or inputs.
To succeed you have to be on ground & monitor your staff,birds,feeds & eggs.
If you cannot be on site all d time..come unannounced,when it time to feeds, collect & sell eggs,buy feeds your self.
I have heard of case where workers stole feeds & open shop to resupply to maga...sells eggs & pocket d money & declared less crate...if a staff is stealing 6crates out of 50crates then he make more profits without any running cost or inputs.make your security cast iron.
I have seen many rush blindly to open big poultry farm,10,000 & more birds with feedmill only to start advertising it for sale or lease after 2yrs of operation.
I observed that those trained passionate farmers who have small homestead farms lives on site & manage their birds succeed more despite numerous challenges.
