Nigeria Is On The Verge Of War, The Afrikan Union Must Intervene Immediately by Afrikahene: 11:02am On Feb 16, 2021 |
Nigeria has been the most terrorized country in Afrika since at least 2015 according to the Global Terrorism Index and has been ranking bad even before then. In fact, according to the Institute of Economics and Peace based in Australia, and the Global Terrorism Index, Nigeria was the third terrorized country in the world in 2018 and most terrorized country in Afrika ahead of Somalia, Egypt, Dr. Kongo, and even the war-torn Libya and till 2020 the ranking remains the same. According to a report by Africanews.com drawn from a report by the Global Terrorism index Terrorist activity in Nigeria is dominated by two groups: Boko Haram and Fulani extremists. THE BOKO HARAM CRISIS The Boko Haram insurgency began as a result of the teachings of an Islamic teacher and sect leader by the name of Mohammed Yusuf who taught his followers that modern Education is Haram (forbidden) whereby they got the name Boko Haram whereas the original name of the sect is Jamāʿat Ahl al-Sunnah li-l-Daʿawah wa al-Jihād (Arabic: “People Committed to the Prophet's Teachings for Propagation and Jihad”) But on the 30th of July 2009, the Nigerian military summarily executed Yusuf. following the killing of Yusuf in the year 2009, a new leader emerged in the organization by the name of Abubakar Shekau, and by 2010 the ragtag organization became the first formidable terrorist group in Nigeria and has killed hundreds of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of mosques and churches and rendered millions of nation homeless in the North East of Nigeria and has affected neighboring Afrikan states like Chad, Cameroon. In 2014, Boko Haram overtook the Islamic State ISIS to become the most deadly terrorist organization in the world. On the 7th of March 2015, Boko Haram pledged allegiance to ISIS. In December same 2015 the Nigerian presidency declared Boko Haram technically defeated yet the end of Boko Haram is nowhere in sight as the organization has embedded herself well into attacking military formations and recruiting heavily. FULANI MILITIA The Fulani militia attacks in Nigeria have been happening for decades and even centuries but have worsened in the past 10 years. In several villages and cities in Nigeria, the Fulani Herdsmen as they are known have killed hundreds of thousands of people in their farms, schools, forests; while they are awake and mostly while they sleep at the dead of the nite. The media keeps reporting it as farmers-herders clash, but no clashes are going on, but acts of terrorism by these herders. Examples of genocide carried out by these terror herders is the Agatu massacre which occurred between February and March 2016 in Agatu, Benue State Nigeria where Fulani Hersamen murdered over 500 villagers without any single arrest of the terrorists till today. Nimbo massacre April 25, 2016, the armed herdsmen numbering over 500 struck killing 40 people. Later on Mohammadu Zurai a Fulani man and other suspects were arrested and they confessed that over 100 Fulani men in connivance with Fulani leaders attacked 5 Fulani men they alleged were murdered without justice. The Fulani militia just like the Sudan Arab supporter of APC has killed even more than Boko Haram. According to CNN in 2019, the Fulani militia had already been said to 6x more deadly than Boko Haram. But why the whole world talks about Boko Haram, they feel it is ethnic profiling to talk about the Fulani militia just as we kept quiet while the supporter of APC murdered Afrikans in Sudan. Every single day in all parts of Nigeria the killings by Fulani militia have caused villagers to flee their villages while these terrorist takeover their farmlands. These herdsmen who are not actually on agricultural missions but missions of conquest have been destroying hectares of farmlands and feeding their cattle with crops in people's farms. Nigerian Govt The Nigeria government has through policies such as the National Grazing Bill 2016, cattle colony in 2018 and RUGA 2019 attempted to take lands from indigenous people of Nigeria to hand them over to the Fulani herdsmen. The Nigerian government also on 4th of July 2018, the Nigerian Presidency asked Nigerians to either surrender their lands to the terrorists or be killed and has refused to arrest these terrorists but instead arrests those confront or kill them or their cows in self-defense. Also, on 13th January 2018 a Fulani group known as the Fulani National Movement vowed to invite Fulani from all Afrika to invade Nigeria if the cattle colony in Nigeria failed, they also claimed responsibility for Fulani attacks in Nigeria, Miyetti Allah the main sociocultural organization of the Fulani has also been shielding the killer herdsmen from prosecution and in 2018 claimed responsibility for an attack that claimed over 100 lives in Plateau state Nigeria. The incessant killings and kidnapping by the Fulani elements and the affirmative body language of the Nigerian government have forced ethnic groups in Nigeria to be wise to opt for self-defense which is the only means of survival which is why there is now the Eastern Security Network founded and led by the Prime Advocate of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Eastern Nigeria to secure the Eastern Nigeria from the invading herders who are bent on colonizing the East, while in the western part of Nigeria is the Amotekun one Sunday Igboho chasing the herders from areas where they are terrorizing the indigenous people. Recommendations The AU should intervene immediately The Afrikan Union should intervene in this issue of herdsmen invasion in Nigeria before it leads to a civil war in Nigeria where every Fulani man would be considered a terrorist. There are at least 5 ways to respond to conflict: conflict prevention, conflict management, conflict resolution, conflict suppression, and conflict transformation. The best of all these is of course conflict prevention which is better than cure. There is already conflict in Nigeria at its latent stage about to become an open conflict should the Afrikan Union fail to respond immediately and decisively to the right thing. Amnesty Is Not The Solution A popular Islamic Sheik Abubakar Gumi met the Fulani bandits this year and spoke with them and is asking the government to grant them amnesty, while a Fulani governor El Rufai replied that that was a waste of time, that the Fulani bandits would never turn away from banditry. Declare Fulani Militia a Terrorist Organization The Afrikan Union should declare the Fulani militia a terrorist group and haunt them to their graves. Open grazing should become a crime. It is a natural law that you do not enter another person's property uninvited. Pastoralists should Buy Lands for Their Ranches The other Fulani pastoralists should use their money to buy lands and create cattle ranches. The AU should mandate the Miyetti Allah to account for all the crimes that Fulani committed and compensate all those who were affected. Mandate a Referendum in Nigeria The AU should also mandate a referendum in Nigeria to determine the continuation of the British-created state of Nigeria which many groups are working tirelessly to pull out from so we can have a peaceful separation rather than an explosion of Nigeria. Warning Alarm Failure to prevent the impending doom in Nigeria, the Afrikan Union should start constructing enough refugee camps for tens of millions of people from Nigeria that is no gainsaying is the most populous country in Afrika. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSAYWmq1VA4 |
