Basic problem here is that government and NNPC can't sustain d payment of subsides for oil Right now it costs 190 to import fuel. A subsidy of 20 naira is still in place. We have debts because of loans taken because of chronically low oil prices. And our refineries are out of comission because for decades we were selling refined products below the cost price. So no profit to keep them running And even if we build new ones, can we make a profit selling petrol below 200 naira a liter? |

MISSCONGENIALITY: Electricity has gone up to n51 per kwh That's from 21 naira per kwh While cost of production is 53 naira per kwh Prices go up or discos continue to lose money |

mejai: What do you want him to do, spend more of our scarce resources subsiding fuel to N40 per liter? Even the 20 naira per liter being paid as subsidy nnpc is finding difficult to sustain. Unless you want him to increase taxes to find funds to sustain subsides |

Vardanes2:And now that fuel price has gone up, they t9 will increase their. Why won't discos lose money when they prefer estimated billing to prepared meters. Where are they even producing the electricity from? Abi them to dey produce the light outside Nigeria and then bring am back to Nigeria? When they give excuse for hung fuel price, discos will also give excuses. |
Re: Marketers Raise Petrol Price To ₦170, Depots Suffer Shortage by Nobody: 10:33am On Feb 17, 2021 |
MISSCONGENIALITY: Most discos get power from gas powered plants which are run by generation companies or GENCOS. And the GENCOS have to pay for the gas in dollars , not in naira ( Gas is produced here ) And CBN won't sell dollars to the GENCOS. So they source for the dollars from the open market at higher cost Before when discos were charging 21 naira per kwh after paying the gemcos 53 naira per kwh their losses were covered by loans and grants from government and international lending agenices. Now no longer sustainable hence the price increase |
