Agric Revolution Is Critical To Effective Economic Diversification Says Oligbo by Tkoy(m): 9:26am On Feb 18, 2021
An Anambra born resource person, philanthropist and politician Amb Ike Oligbo has emphasized the need for the state to embrace mechanized agriculture as a strategic alternative to the crude oil, which he referred to as exhaustible source of revenue.

The illustrious son of Anambra State made this known in a telephone chat with journalists whereby he decried the alarming rate of depreciation of Nigerian currency to the US dollars, which is often triggered by any slightest adjustment in the price of crude oil.

The hopeful gubernatorial aspirant argued that until Nigerian state governors begin to look inwards for credible alternatives, every sudden turn in the oil sector will amount to a twist of fate for the economy since there is nothing on ground to mitigate such situation in form of economic stabilizer.

Ike Oligbo however expressed his readiness to initiate an agricultural revolution that will return Anambra to her pride of place economically if elected governor by the special grace of God. He listed a plan for action in the sector as follows:

1. Supporting practical agriculture in Anambra schools by equipping existing agric labs and gradually creating more of such facilities where there are none, through the school authorities.

2. Provision of high yielding variety of agricultural inputs and modern farm implements to identified farmers across the state.

3. Periodic organization of seminars to teach farmers of improved methods of farming, processing and preservation of feedstuffs and farm produce.

4. Provision of grants and credit schemes to support individuals and cluster farmers to ensure maximum productivity.

5. Establishment of irrigation facilities at strategic points to encourage farmers that have problem accessing water for their plants, among other administrative supports.

Ike Oligbo made it clear that his government will certainly make agriculture more attractive to the youths, women and prospective investors only if Anambrarians would trust him with the mandate to steer the ship of leadership.
