Source: http://www.leadershipeditors.com/ns/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28839:police-nab-vehicle-with-1m-presidential-ballots&catid=51:cover-stories&Itemid=142 The Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday arrested five persons conveying over 100, 000 ballot papers for Saturday, April 16, 2011, presidential polls to an unknown destination. The vehicle, a bus with the National Labour Congress (NLC) inscribed on it was intercepted by police officers attached to the Utako Police Division on a Stop and Search. On inspection of the bus, it was found to contain ballot papers for presidential polls and was then impounded and taken to the police division where it was later taken to the FCT Police Command for further investigation. LEADERSHIP information has it that the said ballot papers which were labelled, “tendered ballot papers,” were allegedly procured by a top politician of North-Western extraction in the Presidency intended to be circulated during the polls and possibly lead to the nullification of the polls in the region. As news of the interception spread, it drew members of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) who stormed the Utako Police Station to get more facts about the incident which they feared might be part of plans to rig the presidential election. However, when contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Utako division, Chief Superintendent of Police, (CSP) Usman Umar, who confirmed the arrest of the persons in the early hours of yesterday, disclosed that occupants of the bus who claimed to be officers of an undisclosed firm had produced papers indicating they were taking their cargo to INEC headquarters in Abuja. |

Why not? In all polls on Nairaland leading up to NASS elections, CPC / Buhari were miles ahead. It is logical that they would have won in a free and fair election. |

GenBuhari: Hear yourself sir, Nairaland polls? what a "credible" source of information to base your analysis on. 90% of the people who actually voted probably have not touched a computer, not to talk of browsing or visiting Nairaland. Forget the polls on Nairaland, go out and vote. |

The Buhari Brigade are so desperate. Its even manifest in the Buhari supporters in this Nairaland. This stories are just excuses to prepare yourselves for the imminent loss at the polls. So you can point to your Sahara Reporters-aided stories and boko-quanshasa .com generated news and say, results were rigged. Why are the Buhari people so desperate and violent? Notice that in all these stories of millions of ballots discovered, its always CPC people that are magically on the scene to help apprehend the suspects. Are they omnipresent people? The more you engage in this cowardly acts, the more people see through you and the stronger the resolve to stick to where we are, with GEJ. Am talking to the Buhari people both on Nairaland and every other place as it seems they all think and behave the same way. |

INEC actually confirmed that the ballot papers is meant for dormant ballot papers, they actually sent those caught to bring the ballot papers to INEC office. Let's always post correct issues here, they've long released the men in police custody. |

I Think CPC will have some Major challenges based on 2 issues 1. This stuff is now turning Gradually to a Religion Issue 2. PDP Has more rigging power honestly than CPC Also online polls are misleading as the majority of Nigerians are not literate enough to have access to such polls |

My heart bleeds to see how religious, tribalistic and sentimental this long awaited election has become. Some few months ago, a reasonable amount of knowledgeable and politically aware persons were talking about the elections without any sentiments or religious view attached to it. The guiding thought was that - this was the time for true change in the country. The general talk was about who the MOST CAPABLE MAN FOR THE JOB was. bababuff: How come is it that some people are forgetting all this and bringing tribe and religion into this. Maybe this is showing that Nigerians are not really ready for the change they really need. |

In today's Punch it is reported that the arrested persons showed INEC award letters for the 'tendered' ballot papers and INEC has confirmed that they ordered the printing of the 'tendered' ballot papers from local printers. the arrested persons were let go. Unfortunately, there is no link for the punch story as the report is not on the web but in the edition for today The issues raised by this stories are: (i) What I dont know is what the 'tendered' ballots mean. Are they samples to be distributed to parties for voter education? This late? (ii) in any case why did the transporters move the ballot papers so late in the day? (iii) Inec should advice its contractors to use police escorts to avoid this sensational incidents. As soon as the incident happened all sorts of wild rumours were peddled, some so incredulous that not even Jega himself will assuage the minds of people. (iiii) Why didnt the paper seek the opinion of INEC before going to the press with such reports when other press houses did that ok here is one from the nation http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/33553.html There was tension in Abuja yesterday over the interception of presidential ballot papers stuffed in a bus without escort from either the police or any security agency. |

efeboy: Because that is the only way GEJ can win,; by sweeping up religious and tribal sentiments, pro-GEJ supporters try to scare away rationalists and objective people from supporting Buhari. Watch how they never talk of the good qualities of GEJ (perhaps because there are none!), but they always put all their energy in discrediting Buhaari without evidence. They even had to accuse the man of trying to islamise Nigeria, a claim that was never heard of in the last 2 elections Buhari contested.Suddenly Buhari is a terrorist today, just because they want GEJ to be President.People get what they deserve, if GEJ wins, then that is what Nigerians deserve, I pray I no go ever join una in suffering. |
