How to Waterproof Your Leather Boots is something that concerns many people, as the subject of how to protect your investment is a popular one among the cognoscenti. Boots made from leather, especially on their bottoms, can be very difficult to clean without special techniques. For this reason most people leave their boots off in the rain, so that they can soak up the water and keep them dry. This is fine if you're only going to be getting half-hour walks, but if you walk more, then you'll need to take the time to waterproof your boots properly.

The three main methods used to waterproof leather are by using silicon sprays, using leather conditioner and using liquid wax. The leather conditioners are new on the block and are fairly easy to apply, although liquid wax has its foundation and is much more durable than the other two. If you are going to be wearing your boots in wet conditions such as rain or even in mucky, damp conditions, then you should always apply conditioner first. This will help the leather regain its shine and hide any patches that may have developed. Be careful when using conditioners to avoid getting any on the insides of the boots, as this can cause the leather to turn black.

Once you have applied the conditioner to the boots, you then need to make sure that you clean the leather properly. You can do this using just a little shoe cleaner, which you should have lying around in your bathroom cabinet. Just rub the shoe cleaner into the leather, working it inwards, then rinse it off and pop the shoe back into the cupboard. Cleaning leather can sometimes be tricky, particularly if it's been coloured, but if you simply rub with a clean piece of cotton wool then you should be able to clean it without any damage. When cleaning the leather always remember to avoid rubbing the sides as this can cause the leather to crack.

After you've rubbed the shoe with a lint free cloth, you then need to work the soap into the crevices. To do this, use the same circular motions that you used to clean the leather, only this time you're going to use the circular motions in a clockwise rotation. If you want to get the best effect possible, then try to go back and forth for about 30 seconds, or you could try doing it in small sections. By doing this, you will be left with very nice looking lather on your boots.

After you have completed this process, you should allow the boot to dry for the best effects. In order to dry the boots effectively, you should use a blow dryer on a low setting. However, in most cases you shouldn't dry them with a high heat. If you really insist on drying them by going with the high heat, then place the boots somewhere where they will still be exposed to the air until they have dried completely.

The third technique for how to waterproof your Andrade Boots is with beeswax waterproofing leather conditioner. To make this work, you should ensure that you soak the boots in the conditioner for about an hour before putting them on, or you could leave them overnight in a container full of the conditioner. You should then condition the boots by following the instructions that come with the beeswax waterproofing leather conditioner. For this to be effective you need to allow the boots to sit in the conditioner for about forty-five minutes before you wear them. It is important to bear in mind that the beeswax waterproofing leather conditioner needs to be thoroughly mixed with warm water before use, which can take some time.
