EBMedia:
Residents of a community in Lagos state assaulted a staff of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) while carrying out his job, IgbereTV reports.

It was gathered that he had gone to disconnect the power line of bill defaulters when he was attacked by members of the area who claimed they have not seen power for three weeks.

In a video which surfaced online, a man with deep cuts in his head was being stitched up by medical personnel.

According to Twitter user, @Nigeriangod_, who posted the video, residents of the community attacked the IKEDC for disconnecting electricity shortly after coming out of three weeks power outage in the area.

In the video, the man could be seen bleeding and groaning in pain as he received medical attention.

Those staffs were only doing their jobs. Always cooperate with the neighborhood as an electric distribution staff whenever you go for disconnection of electricity, people are angry with current hike in prices of commodities.

bampeh doesn't support this action

People are actually angry with DISCOs not necessarily about the prices of commodities.
Tariff per unit was gradually increased to N25 from N4 when Jonathan sold the power sector. Then, it jumped to N63 per unit with the same darkness or worse.

boogietrends:
It is wrong to violently attack electricity company personnel. Seriously prepaid meter will stop all these confrontations. In some African countries, customers pay a small amount and the prepaid meter is installed. When they recharge the meter, 20% of the amount is deducted to offset the balance for the prepaid meter. They should try and implement that in Nigeria.

You should also advice electricity company personnels to stop violently disconnecting customers without justification or prior notice. The NERC guidelines forbids electricity company personnels from carrying ladder up and down disconnecting people without notice.

I swear, if I was a Resident of this community, I'll relocate by this month's end, cos IKEDC will blacklist them till they do the following:
1. Produce the attackers
2. Foot the medical bills + heavy compensation for the victim.
3. Sign an MOU never to attack or prevent Staff of IKEDC from carrying their duty.

This is blackmail. And the blackmail is possible because the government allowed monopoly of the power sector. If the community is allowed to source their electricity from another company, would IKEDC be blackmailing people anyhow?

It's like MTN treatening to cut off a customer because someone beat up their official.
