Her Journey With Preeclampsia by stoneaustin(m): 9:35pm On Mar 27, 2021
I stumbled on a trend about complications in pregnancies and I thought my experience would give hope to anyone that is currently going through same challenge...

I got a call from my wife while at work, the tone was not pleasant at all!! She was experiencing severe headache, body pains and blurred vision she had to visit the hospital and she was held down by the doctors! Her blood pressure was within the range of 170-190 and sometimes 200 and there was protein in her urine (+++).

We were both first timers and know little or nothing about all these. I took excuse from the office and rushed down to the hospital, I met a gynaecologist and without emotions he told me that my wife is having PREECLAMPSIA and that they would monitor her for some time and if the results are not p
good they would have to remove the child! I was confused!!!!! You will remove a child that is FIVE(5) MONTHS and barely TWO (2) WEEKS He said yes and I asked him what dah Bleep is preeclampsia Lolz! After his explanation my BP went up crazily! It was then I understood the situation we were in!
They managed the situation for 2 days and no positive outcome, my wife started getting swollen and her bp kept increasing!

My friend (a medical professional) came to check on us at the hospital and discovered that my hospital (A PRIVATE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL) does not have a ventilator (a special kind of incubator that supports breathing) he advised I take my wife to LASUTH (AYINKE HOUSE) I was mad with the doctors!!!

I requested for her to be discharged immediately and I took her to LASUTH and after all the plenty running around for registration, conducting several test and buying of medical items she was operated on immediately...

I had a mixed feeling of very little excitement, pain, anger and uncertainty! I keep asking myself, what is this child coming to do for me this early?? 5 months is just too damn early!!!

She(baby girl) was brought out and weigh 900gram at birth and dropped to 750gram few days after birth! She was the smallest baby I have ever seen!!!

She stayed THREE MONTHS inside the incubator... It was indeed a ROLLER COASTER!! three months of tears, pains, heat, trauma and uncertainties!

She had Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) twice( with a bloated and shinny tummy with no perforation) she stayed off feed for 3 weeks and 5 days.
There was several cases of anemia ( I bought blood and platelets like pure water! Lolzz!!!)
She had hypoglycaemia, sepsis and other infections...

It was NOT an easy ride physically, spiritually, psychologically, financially and mentally!!!

But guess what!! We were finally discharged on 10th of February 2020 at 1.2kg!! You guys need to see my little Pearl now!!!!

Don't give up guys!!! Have faith even when you think it's not going on well...
Be strong and have a positive spirit!
