The influx of soldiers on roads leading to the southern parts of Nigeria is quite alarming.

I recall traveling few days ago and without being bias of course, I recall counting close to 17 checkpoints.

Every checkpoint had soldiers stretching out hands for #500 bribe from the drivers. Then I wondered who and what gave them the audacity to do such.

A soldier has a special duty assigned to him.
A soldier isn't meant to be begging for alms nor collecting bribes.
Soldiers are not meant to be on highways except during cases of serious emergency.

What would a soldier be doing, engaging a civilian in such manner??

I would really love an insight on this one cause I believe Nigerian military lost it's value a long time ago.

Once south east senator start speaking about this other sentors will start sleeping some will remember the night club they went together in Dubai and start discussing about it

We have been shouting like maaaad man on senate ground and in public nobody cares because you can tax an Igbo man any amount and he will find a way to pay it and still survive

In their mind an Igbo man will never reach a breaking point.....when ever you squeeze him oil must comot for him body wey you go take chop yam

Now the unknown gun men has started attacking them on checkpoints illegally mounted with the consent of oga at the top....those who claim to know more than us are now shouting OH THEY ARE TURNING INTO BOKOHARAM....IGBOS ARE NOW TURNING INTO BOKOHARAM ATTACKING INNOCENT, SOMEBODY'S HUSBAND ON CHECKPOINTS....they even go as far as recruiting local youths and then stand by the shade and watch them collecting money for them....they can go as far as shooting you down because of 200naira and you think the driver, passenger you shot down because he refused to give you 200 or negotiated to give you 200 is not INNOCENT or SOMEONE'S HUSBAND OR FATHER? You think they don't have relatives who's tired of seeking unserved justice?

Try sitting on black ant bare butt....then you understand the meaning of breaking point, self defence and justice

Traveling safely, how about the police? What happened to their services?

I only asked a simple question.

Cause the country isn't balanced everyone tend to behave as they wish.

A soldier on this op's argument isn't meant to be found out there in such a manner except during harsh conditions e.g. War

Collecting bribe is even another issue.
Re: TIMELINE: What Are Soldiers Doing On Highways? by ivandragon: 7:29pm On Apr 01, 2021
It's part of the problem we have in this country.

Not only is there a serious recruitment profile problem with our security agencies, they are often assigned duties that they are not trained for.

No military personnel should mount a road block anywhere in this country except where Marshall Law has been declared.

Security road blocks, where absolutely necessary, should be manned by Civil Defence personnel only & same goes for protection of various public installations & persons. Only in cases where there is a crime in progress or escalating civil disturbance should the appropriate police unit intervene.

The police should focus on security patrols within city/town limits, intelligence gathering & responding to crimes. A special heavy weapons unit should be stationed in every town but only respond to violent armed crimes in progress. They must never patrol or be seen armed in public.

The military needs to focus on fighting wars & armed rebellions.

Now that's the point.
I can't seem to understand what a military man would be doing, engaging civilians not to talk in such a manner.

VERY WRONG.

Things are just done the opposite way in this country. Corruption even in places unimaginable.

op, go to okene soldiers would stop tanker drivers who would give them 4 litter of petrol before they pass

The tanker drivers all have 4 litters waiting when they reach check point

Soldiers would place black market boys to be collecting on their behalf after which they sell

You have never had sense

The op said what are soldiers doing on southern roads?

Is the south at war, shouldn't they focus on North and it's roads that is facing external aggression (of which they were created)

Can the police not do the check point work they are doing now

Are you this forgetful? Yoruba danced and rejoiced how they stopped Ndigbo from breaking away from Nigeria in 1967. It was celebrated Owambe-style in the entire Yoruba land. Awolowo was held beyond human hero.
