Since Independence, only one Yoruba man has succeeded in ruling Nigeria, and has done that twice, and that's Olusegun Obasanjo. First as a military Head of State between 1976 and 1979 and secondly as a democratically elected president between 1999 and 2007. But guess what, Obasanjo is ironically the only Yoruba leader who is not an Igbo hater. In fact, during his Presidency he worked with a lot of Igbo brains which helped his presidency succeed; from Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to Charles Soludo to Oby Ezekwesili, et al.

Now let's mirror other Yoruba leaders who have even been more popular but thought the Igbo race were for the crushing how their dreams of ruling Nigeria turned.

OBAFEMI AWOLOWO

One of the Nationalists and champions of independence, Awolowo is famed for being the originator of ethnic politics in Nigeria when he prevented Nnamdi Azikiwe whose party, the NCNC, won majority at the Western House of Assembly, from becoming premier of Western Region purely on tribal and primordial sentiments.

Again during the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, Awolowo, who was Minister of Finance then, made hunger a weapon of war against the East which led to the malnourishment and death of over 1million Igbo children. And at the end of the war, it was Awolowo who sat over the policy that every Igbo be give 20 pounds irrespective of what he had in the bank.

There you have it. Awolowo thought he could ride to the presidency on the back of Igbo hatred and subservience to northern oligarchy but it all ended a pipe dream with some conspiracy theorists claiming he drank rat poison and died a shameful death.

MKO ABIOLA

Not much is in the press of Abiola's anti-Igbo sentiments but it has been claimed that Abiola once threatened to sink a ship freighting Bible into Nigeria; a direct attack at the East which is predominantly Christian.

His anti-Igbo sentiments may have been reason why Bashir Torfa seemed to have garnered more votes in the East than Abiola did.

Yes. Abiola "won" but never became president. And so was the end of the dream of another Yoruba Igbo hater.

Now, as 2023 draws near, another Yoruba leader, Tinubu, is positioning to take his chances at the country's top post, riding on the back of Igbo hatred and some of kinsmen and footsoldiers are cheering him on.

One of the greatest lessons of history is that it teaches us that men do not learn anything from history.

And so like Awolowo like MKO Abiola and so would be Ahmed Bola Tinubu since he has chosen to toe the line of infamy.

Penguin is a bird of reason!

Forget the fact that Tinubu may be corrupt or not. I just have one simple question. How exactly is he riding on the back of Igbo hatred.

Why did Tinubu team up with Buhari to dislodge GEJ from power?

Well the answer to that is simple. Tinubu wanted his party to be in power.

Yes, while that can be dismissed as politics which is understandable, one other reason Tinubu led SW against GEJ was because it was thought that GEJ's govt was favouring Igbos and u know it.

For God's sake, Yoruba had just finished ruling Nigeria for 8 solid years through OBJ. If GEJ was favoring Igbo (which he wasn't), why is that supposed to be upsetting to Yoruba?

You are talking as if 2010-2015 is a long time ago.

Were you not here when they accused GEJ of not giving any major appointment to the Yorubas?

In their usual shying away from the truth, they forgot that PDP zoned House of Rep Speakership to SW but Tinubu teamed up with the North to deny Mulikat Akande the seat.

They play the ostrich instead of facing the truth.

They know the game Tinubu and Tambuwal played with that Speaker seat.

Check out Nigeria's economic teams in different adminstrations since 1999. You'll notice that any administration that have done well have always had igbos spearheading key economic and technical departments. OBJ put Igbo in key economic postions. Yar'Adua and Goodluck too did it. Bcause the truth is igbo are better in this field. The records can prove it. The only administration not towing that path is Buhari and we've had 2 recessions to show for it.

No reasonable government will have a bonafide economist like NOI and not employ her time run its finances but settle for a microfinance bank teller like Adeosun

But what politics did Tinubu and Tambuwal play with the Speakership seat?

The speaker seat was Zoned to the South West by the PDP. Tambuwal (a northerner) recriuted SW senators (loyal to Tinubu) and got the speaker seat for himself, thereby going against the arrangements of his party PDP. That move ensured that the Yoruba hadn't any person in the highest political offices in Nigeria.

Then he defected to APC when it was created

I have asked myself this question a million times!
I mean Obasanjo is Yoruba and favoured the Yorubas immensely as a president! Made them chairmen of NNPC, GLO licence, Otedola them. Nicon insurance, Ottah industrial layout.. name it. They were in government and enjoyed it.

Enter Jonathan..., He's not even igbo and never treated the Igbos specially. Just that he wasn't going out of his way to instigate emberassing situations against the Igbos as is the case today. An igbo man became secretary to the government, and Army chief. All, for the first time since the end o the war and fiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaam, the Yoruba political elite went into overdrive!

Tinubu never rested! Changing alliances with any willing soul in sight all to unseat Jonathan. They claimed he was marginalising the south west, but how really? You refused to fix anybody for you position as the speaker of the house! Where you expecting to be made the president again immediately after Obasanjo?

He didn't immediately replace one or two Yoruba ministers,, but today the ministry of finance and FIRS have all been taken from you and given to Buharis brothers by Buhari and youare still clapping for him! Supporting him to the hilt.

It has made me to believe that at the moment, Yorubas interest in Nigerias politics is more about how they will subjugate the Igbos and not about how they will improve themselves! If there are no Igbos in the equation, Yorubas won't mind another northerner taking over from Buhari. But once it starts to look like an igbo might be favoured, you see them jumping out of their skins to lament and wail. It's evil..

I know about this of course.

Only that Tambuwal did not recruit SW politicians, Tinubu instructed ACN senators then to vote for Tambuwal together with some dissenting Rep Members of the PDP from the North.

The East is the only region that is homogeneously Christian. The West is considered a conquered territory in terms of religion because there will always be counter to Christian activities.

Look at MURIC.

You don't find such in the East.

If my assertion of Abiola false in it's totality, why did Igbos not vote for him in the 1993 election?

And about your implied suggestion of SW being capital of Christianity in Nigeria, I need to let you understand that does not count in any way.

That Ajayi Crowther influenced the building of first Cathedral in Abeokuta is not the issue, the question is, where is Christianity in the West today? Today, Muslims and Christians now take turn to be governors in Lagos, Osun and Oyo. Something you won't find in the East. Is that the capital you talk about?
