I understand where you are coming from and I think, it was part of their culture (kinda of to preserve their blood line rather than taint it with a peasant blood through marriage).

Same way the Jews, and part of Muslim peoples marries within their extended families (cousins marrying cousins etc). Even, British royalty would never allow their daughters to marry a peasant (including Megan and Harry that has been talking trash about royalty and how it is choking them).
