FACT 3 India has an "anti-gravity" hill. Magnet Hill is located near Leh in Ladakh, India. Layout of the area and surrounding slopes creates an optical illusion of a hill. The road slopes downhill but objects and cars on the road appear to roll uphill in defiance of gravity when they are actually rolling downwards. 2 Likes

FACT 4 India has 155,015 post offices - the highest number of any country in the world. At independence in 1947 India had only 23,344. This was gradually increased up to the current number, by year 2016, and 90% of them are located in rural areas.

FACT 6 Until 1896, India was the only source of diamonds in the world. Initially, diamonds were only found in the alluvial deposits at Guntur and Krishna District of the Krishna River Delta. Diamonds were later also found in Brazil, then in other places.

FACT 7 India has a spa just for elephants. At the Punnathoor Cotta Elephant Yard Rejuvenation Centre in Kerala, elephants receive baths, massages and food.

FACT 8 A special polling station was set up for a single voter at Gir Forest in India. The man, Mahant Bharatdas Darshandas, has been voting since 2004. During every election since then, a special polling booth is set up specially for him, as he is the only voter from Banej in Gir forest. 1 Like

FACT 10 There is a temple in India dedicated to the worship of rats. The Karni Mata Rat Temple in the town of Deshnok, Rajasthan, is visited by many pilgrims every year. Thousands of rats live in the temple, making it one of India’s most unique attractions.

FACT 11 A village in India has no doors or locks on their houses. The village of Shani Shingnapur is famous for not having a door or lock on any single house. Surprisingly, there has been no record of any criminal act in the village for almost 400 years! Perhaps the shared vulnerability has created such neighbourly trust between residents, that it has forged a protection stronger than any bolt, door or gate could provide. 1 Like

FACT 12 India has a lot of public holidays! In 2019, India recorded 26 official holidays, including New Year, Independence Day, Deepavali, Easter, Holi (festival of colours), Patriots Day, Missionary Day, Christmas etc. The high number of holidays is because there are so many different cultural groups in India.

FACT 13 In some parts of India, Coke and Pepsi are used as pesticides! Farmers in the Durg, Rajnandgaon and Dhamtari districts of Chattisgarh (one of the world’s largest rice-producing areas) began spraying fields with Coke and Pepsi because it was cheaper than using traditional pesticides. Surprisingly, it seemed to be equally effective. Perhaps that is because the sweet syrups attract ants to the fields, which then eat the eggs and larvae of insects pests. 1 Like

FACT 14 India has the lowest divorce rate in the world. In India only about 13 of 1000 marriages end in divorce i.e. approx.1%. Compare this with Luxembourg, which has an 87% divorce rate.

FACT 15 In India, frogs get married! In Varanasi, India, when the rains are delayed, the people go back to their old traditional beliefs and rituals, among which is that frogs there are caught and married to each other to please the rain gods. 1 Like

FACT 16 India has the tallest statue in the world. Measuring 600feet (182m) in height, the Statue of Unity is currently the tallest in the world. It is a tribute to the independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and is located in the western state of Gujarat, where Patel was born. The statue is almost twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in the USA (305ft or 93m). It was made with more than 12,000 bronze panels and weighs about 67,000 tonnes. 1 Like

I'll never visit india even if I'm being given a free visa, those people are more racist than the whites, and my guts tell me they have poor hygiene and smell a lot like curry and spices... 2 Likes |
